Volkswagen Scirocco BlueMotion

By Alison in: Volkswagen Coupe Hatchbacks

The Volkswagen Scirocco BlueMotion is on its way, broadening the ecological range offering from Volkswagen. The small coupe will soon have a new version of the 1.4-litre TSi engine with 122 hp, which will further reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

Even the sports market of the Scirocco will have to adapt to new environmental moves in the automobile industry. The Scirocco BlueMotion will have start&stop technology and energy regeneration when braking, achieving average cosumption of six litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 139 g/km. It will be available from December, and will then substitute the current engine option with 122 hp and 200Nm.

Volkswagen Golf R

The Volkswagen Golf R pics from Frankfurt show its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show alongside other VW models such as the three-door Polo, L1 and E-Up! concepts and the Bluemotion line with the Polo, Golf and Passat.

The new Golf R is equipped with the 2.0-litre TFSI with 270 hp and all-wheel drive, making it a serious sports hatch competitor to the Audi S3 and anything else that gets in its way. This is one zippy little number with 350 Nm, that takes the R32 as its ancestor. It has an average consumption of 8.5 litres per 100 km, which is a good two litres less than the old V6 of the R32. Top speed is 250 km/hr and it reaches 100 km/hr in 5.7 seconds, or 5.5 with the DSG transmission.

The Scirocco R was also at the Volkswagen Frankfurt stand after its official presentation at the Nurburgring 24 hours. It has rear wheel drive with XDS electronic differential and is equipped with the 2.0-litre TFSI at 265 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

Volkswagen BlueMotion: Golf, Passat and Polo most fuel-efficient cars

By Alison in: Volkswagen Hatchbacks City cars Saloons

Volkswagen BlueMotion Polo, Golf and Passat

Volkswagen has released details of its BlueMotion range of cars, stating that the Bluemotion Golf, Polo and Passat are the most fuel-efficient vehicles in their respective classes. The range will be present at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show this month, and while they show no sparkling new looks, eco-friendly options are important among consumers, particularly with the new Euro 5 norms.

The Polo BlueMotion with its 3.3-litre engine produces just 87 g/km of CO2 emissions, while the Golf with its 3.8-litre produces 99 g/km. The Passat continues the trend with 114 g/km of CO2 emissions for its 4.4-litre engine.

All engine models are the new common rail TDI engines, and will also feature start-stop technology and energy regeneration. The range will have its world premiere at Frankfurt, after which they are ready for purchase from this autumn in Europe.

Volkswagen Polo gallery and 13,000 orders

By Alison in: Volkswagen Hatchbacks

Volkswagen Polo - nuove immagini ufficiali

The new Volkswagen Polo has already received 13,000 orders, before it even hits the market. The figures are not surprising given the engine range offers more choices than an Ikea catalogue: 1.2 litre aspirated petrol unit at both 60 and 70 hp, 1.6 TDI at 75, 90 and 105 hp, and the 1.2 litre TSI turbo charged, which will arrive sometime this year.

The Polo also has some impressive environmental qualifications with 5.5 litres of fuel consumed per 100 kilometres, and 129 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometre. These figures are even more impressive with the TDI, 90 hp Bluemotion version, which requires a mere 3.6 litres of diesel for every 100 km, producing 96 grams of CO2 emissions. The DSG seven speed transmission will be available for the first time, and the Polo debut is planned for July.

New Volkswagen Polo and Polo Bluemotion Concept at Geneva

By Alison in: Volkswagen Hatchbacks Future Cars Concept Cars

Volkswagen has presented the new Polo at the Geneva show, in both the five door and Bluemotion Concept models. While the style is nothing to get excited about, Volkswagen has concentrated its efforts on safety, especially in the light of new EuroNCap norms.

All versions therefore, will be equipped with ESP. The five door Polo is 3.95 metres long and 1.68 metres wide (slightly larger than the previous model) and the boot has a variable capacity of 280 to 952 litres. The McPherson front suspension is completely new and the braking system has been updated.

The other important news regards fuel consumption, becoming the new catch cry for nearly all the manufacturers at the show. The new Polo is about 7.5 percent lighter and the engine range has been revolutionised with the arrival of new TDI and TSI models, along with the seven-speed, twin-clutch DSG transmission.

Volkswagen to release Touareg Hybrid

By Alison in: Volkswagen SUVs Future Cars Tech

vw touareg hybrid

The Touareg hybrid should be available come next year, according to announcements from Volkswagen. The company will further expand its BlueMotion ecological range with this sports utility, which will add to the ever-widening range of hybrid vehicles available on the market.

The Volkswagen sports utility will be the first hybrid engine vehicle from the company, equipped with a V6 TSI and a 52hp electric motor, for a combined performance of 333hp. A new eight-speed automatic transmission will also feature, resulting in consumption of about nine litres per 100km.

Use of only the electric engine allows for speeds below 50 km/hr, while on full power (or boost mode) performance results in 374 hp and 550 Nm. More additions to the Volkswagen hybrid offering will take place in 2010, with the expansion of the Passat range, including an EcoFuel option of petrol-natural gas combination capable of 150hp and running 100 km with only 4.5 litres of petrol.

A BlueTDI engine will also emerge with 140 hp and consuming only 5.2 litres per 100km. The last engine option in development is the BlueMotion with start&stop technology, saving energy when stopping. All this should see a comprehensive ecological offering from Volkswagen within a year.

Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion

Volkswagen will be showing at the IAA 2007 in Frankfurt the Golf BlueMotion for the first time. For the most economical version of the popular hatchback, VW boasts an average fuel consumption of 4.5 liters/100 km and only 119 g/km of CO2 emissions. Fuel consumption if .06 liters lower than the Golf 1.9 TDI from which it derives while C02 emissions are down from 135 g/km.

The 1.9 TDI engine of the Golf Bluemotion has 105 hp and 250 Nm of torque, but its programming has been modified to lower the idling regime. There is also a new particulate filter, which lowers emission and absorbs less power. The gearbox has longer gear ratios in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. The penetration coefficient (Cx) has been lowered from 0.32 to 0.30, thanks to an optimized underbody and a new radiator grille. The Golf Bluemotion also has tires optimized to lower rolling resistance. Top speed is up from 187 km/h to 190 km/h (o

Sales of the Golf BlueMotion will start late this year with prices from 20.615 € for the Trendline

Volkswagen - 8 world premieres in Frankfurt

By Luca in: Volkswagen SUVs Announcements

VW TiguanVolkswagen has announced that il be showing 8 world premieres at the next IAA in Frankfurt. The most important premiere will probably be the new VW Tiguan, the mid-size SUV. The Tiguan will be equipped with a new 1.4-liter Twin Charger engine (150 ps), a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine (200 ps) and two new 2.0 liter Common-Rail turbo-charged engines, with respectively 140 and 170 ps. The new diesel engine will both comply with the new Euro 5 emission regulations.

VW will also show a “non convenzional” prototype, of which they say: “The heart of this sensationally flexible City Expert will beat where the flat-four boxer engine once did in the Beatle”. The fact that the press release talks about a “heart” and not an engine makes one think that it’ll be something different from a normal internal combustion engine.

Last but not least, the BlueMotion model offensive, with 6 world premieres. The “low-emissions, low fuel consumption” denoted by the BlueMotion range will thus grow from two to eight models, to which another one will be added during 2008.
