Here are the first spy shots of Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series, a more sporty and extreme version of the SLS AMG Coupe. Rumors about this car have been circulating for quite a while, but this is actually the first time that a prototype have been spotted around, and certain aesthetic details leave no doubt about its identity: wider fenders and a modified front-end with much bigger air-intakes that change the aerodynamic balance of the car are the most clear evidence of the fact that this is actually it.

The Black Series can be considered a road-legal version of the GT3 racing model, although a more straightforward road version of the latter has not been ruled out. However, judging by these spy shots, it looks like the only element that does not resemble the GT3 is the fixed rear spoiler, as this mule sports an automatically extending rear wing like the one we saw on the SLS AMG, probably coupled with a more complex and efficient diffuser.

The engine should end up being an enhanced version of the well-known 600hp 6.2-litres V8, and the weight should be less than 1600 kg thanks to work done on all elements of the car. Obviously, suspension and braking system will be upgraded too, while the ECU will boast more aggressive mappings. Although no official confirmation was given on the matter, it is likely that AMG will come up with an optional racing package to get the most out of the Black Series on the track, basically the same sort of operation they did with the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series.

Mercedes-Benz engineers are working at a new, still enigmatic supercar, caught in this video while testing at the Nurburginger Nordschleife. It is clear that this test mule is based on the Mercedes SL, but we don’t exactly know yet what car is hidden under the camouflage.

Rumors say that the german automaker is developing a bunch of new supercars including a modern edition of the 300 SL Gullwing, the SLC, and the SL AMG Black Series.

This one should be based on the 6.2 litres V8 built in Affalterbach by AMG and will probably be much lighter than other SL versions, since it will get a new, fixed, carbon-fiber roof and other lightened body parts. Other notable features such as the huge fender flares, and a rear diffuser with quad exhaust pipes contribute to distinguish the Black Series from the “normal” SL AMG.
