Bentley Continental GT Mulliner kit

By Alison

Bentley Continental GT Mulliner

The new Bentley Continental GT Mulliner styling pack includes a series of new accessories in carbonfibre making for a smooth, elegant Continental GT tuning job. The front, beehive spoiler has been slightly modified and gets a new carbonfibre splitter. The lightweight material has also been used on the new side skirts and rear diffuser.

Further options available include a rear spoiler, carbonfibre rear view mirrors, blacked-out front air intakes and seven-spoke, 21-inch wheels. The Classic Pack above is already available, while these extra options will be on the market from autumn. We’re assuming that this will be a pricey little kit but no total figure has been released.

Porsche and Bentley to work on 'boring' Panamera together?

By Alison

Porsche Panamera_official

Reports from France suggest the Porsche Panamera could have a diesel version as early as summer 2011 in what would be another departure from the traditional sports image of the Porsche brand, but a probably a necessary one given the type of vehicle that the Panamera is. Automobile Magazine reports that the Porsche Panamera diesel would be equipped with a 3.0-litre TDI V6 twin turbo unit with 300 hp and 600 Nm, that would go to fit-out the Audi A6, A7 Sportback and Audi A8.

The magazine goes on to say that we could even see the Panamera Hybrid revealed in 2011 with the 3.0 TSI V6 combined to an electric motor of 47 hp for a total of 380 hp. We’re convinced that a diesel Panamera makes a lot of sense but we’re less sure we’ll be seeing a hybrid model that soon.

In the meantime, Autocar reveals that Porsche could look to Bentley for more collaboration on future Panamera cars, to produce further variants of the model. While there might be a little too much internal competition for comfort on this front, especially as the Bentley Continental GT could get in the way of a Panamera GT model, Porsche CEO Matthias Muller has said it makes sense for Porsche and Bentley to collaborate to consolidate platform development and cut costs. He says:

What we want to do, in conjunction with Bentley, is to have a common architecture, a common performance in purchasing, and so on. That is just an offer to Bentley; you have to understand. Everybody will be keen to get synergies and reduce costs, and at the end of the day, have a better revenue

Specifically referring to the Panamera model, he says:

To have only a four-door limousine is a boring option for the future…. You can imagine a coupé with two doors, a longer version, maybe a van, a combi, or something else. There are a lot of ideas about the Panamera line-up but we cannot do all of these derivatives at the same time, and we need to look at the customers, whether they are keen to have a derivative of the Panamera.

We have to look at our competitors, and our internal competitors. Maybe there is a Bentley; we have to look at whether the Porsche can fit in with the strategy there. It would be stupid to have a car, a derivative, which substitutes, or is substituted, to 100 per cent by another brand.

So far the Panamera has proved there is a market for it and that it’s a popular model so there’s no reason why Porsche shouldn’t look to develop it, as long as that doesn’t mean stepping on Bentley toes or making investments in models where others are already playing.

Bentley Continental GT new pics

Bentley Continental GT new pics

The sleek new Bentley Continental GT will be ready for the first deliveries early in 2011 after its official presentation took place at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. No radical changes have been made to the Continental GT, which is probably just as well. While still the luxurious (and heavy) Bentley that we know, the new model is slightly more sporty and has some new touches to the interior keeping things modern. The engine is the 6.0-litre W12 with 575 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Pricing is about 190,000 euros but just once, wouldn’t you love to ride in one of these? Check it out in the new gallery below.

Bentley Continental GT live at 2010 Paris Motor Show

By Alison

Bentley Continental GT - live 2010 Paris show

The lovely (and new) Bentley Continental GT is live at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and this gallery shows its slight restyling as it attempts to continue the success of this model for Bentley. The Continental GT has been redesigned but it still obviously the model we’ve gotten used to seeing, taking on a few elements of the Mulsanne but otherwise essentially the same. The Continental GT is at the Paris show in coupé form only, as it looks like we might see the cabriolet version at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

The Continental GT is equipped with the W12 twinturbo Flexfuel engine with an updated power figure of 575 hp. It has a brand new six-speed ZF Quickshift gearbox which combines with the engine for an acceleration time to 100 km/hr of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 318 km/hr. Fuel consumption stands at an average of 16.5 l/100 km. From 2011 the Continental GT will be available with a new four-litre V8, possibly from Audi though nothing is official yet. This new model also has a few internal upgrades with a new multimedia system being the focus.

New Bentley Continental GT revealed

By Alison

Bentley Continental GT 2011

The new 2011 Bentley Continental GT has been revealed before its official 2010 Paris Motor Show debut. While still practically the same as the current model in looks, it’s still one beautiful car and for those in the know, the delicate differences are noticeable. Firstly, the new Continental GT gets a more sculptured look introduced by the new Mulsanne, and thus also adopts LED technology in both the front and rear lights.

We can see a new front grille and bumpers and boot made from aluminium. On the inside, we also get only minor changes but the Continental GT is brought up to date with a new infotainment system, along with that maniacal attention to luxury detail you’d expect. Rear seat passengers get extra legroom through reducing the front seat size, we get new massage and ventilation systems in the seats, and higher quality materials.

Technically speaking, the new Bentley will keep the same but slightly revised 6.0-litre W12 engine, but we get new aluminium suspension components, an all-wheel drive system split 40:60 and ESC stability control. A V-Max system gives greater grip at high speeds and the new suspension system has CDC electronic control. The Continental GT W12 gets a power upgrade to 567 hp and 699 Nm of torque, and a new six-speed Quickshift transmission.

Bentley Continental GT spy shots

By Alison

Bentley Continental GT spy shots

Just days before the new Bentley Continental GT is to be officially released these spy shots have appeared with lighter camouflage than usual. Undergoing final testing, the Continental GT will be revealed in press coverage on September 7 and will then appear in all its glamour at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The Continental GT will keep the Bentley philosophy of this model alive and will retain much of the style of the current generation, with just a few touch-ups designed to increase its appeal. New front headlights with LED technology feature in the same design as the Bentley Mulsanne, and an extractor gives a new sports look to the rear. The interior won’t be particularly radical either, with a few changes to the central console to bring it up to the modern technology expected in a luxury car of this kind.

Technically speaking, the old six-speed automatic will change to make way for the new ZF, eight-speed transmission and we’ll also get a power upgrade with the 6.0-litre W12 reaching 600 hp and 800 Nm of torque. That’s all the bread and butter bits, so now all we have to do is wait for the official pics.

Bentley Mulsanne live pics from Frankfurt

By Alison

Stand Bentley Francoforte 2009

These live pics show the Bentley Continental GT and new Bentley Mulsanne at the Frankfurt Motor Show, after the Mulsanne’s official presentation at Pebble Beach. It replaces the Bentley Arnage, getting long in the tooth, and is a very large, imposing Bentley. The Mulsanne measures 5.57 metres long with a wheel base of 3.26.

The Mulsanne is built in an almost nostalgic style for the Bentleys of the past, although it is kitted out with modern technology. It has 20 or 21-inch alloy wheels and the bodywork can be ordered from a list of 114 different colours, with pearl and twin-tone versions that can be matched to 24 different interior leather colours. This would all explain why it takes nine weeks to build just one Bentley Mulsanne.

The interior has a few updates on the Continental GT, with an eight-inch multimedia display, 40 GB hard disc, Naim hi-fi system with 20 speakers and 2,220 Watts of power (disco on wheels, anyone?). The Mulsanne has a keyless system which can automatically retrieve the radio settings, telephone contacts, seat position, steering wheel and seatbelt angles, and will even electronically control the internal curtains. My apartment does less.

The Mulsanne is equipped with a 6.75-litre V8 twinturbo engine with 512 hp and an incredible 1020 Nm of power. The eight-speed transmission has steering wheel paddle controls and four set-up options are available: Bentley, Sport and Comfort. There is also a custom setting purely up to the driver’s choice.

Video: Bentley Continental GTC offroad in sand dunes

By Alison

We would never have thought to use a supercar sedan for a romp among the sand dunes, but in this video you will find the off-road qualities of the Bentley Continental GTC clearly on display. The Bentley in the sand dunes doesn’t appear to have too much difficulty, though it’s a rather strange way to enjoy a cabriolet that costs 210,000 euros.

Bentley Continental GTC Speed: missing link

By Alison

Bentley Continental GTC Speed_render bugatti&91

Bentley has successfully launched the Speed versions of its Continental GT and Flying Spur, which were seen at the Paris motor show. The only version that hasn’t received this hormonal boost is the Continental GTC Cabriolet, but it appears to be only a question of time.

In this render from our reader Bugatti&91, we can see the GTC Speed in a possible final aspect, with the same front as the GT Speed. The 20-inch alloy wheels and crome exhausts will likely be the same and under the bonnet the W12 twin turbo should reach about 600hp.

Other modifications will include calibration, interior finish and certain accessories. Some Bentley prototypes have already been indicated and it’s most likely that the Continental GTC Speed will make its debut on the market in 2009, as model year 2010.

Bentley recalls 13.420 vehicles: fire risks

By Alison

More than 13,400 Continental GT, GT Speed, GTC and Flying-Spur, manufactured from 2004 to 2008 will be recalled over the coming days, due to a manufacturing defect in the fuel filters, sensitive to the salt distributed on roads in winter. The external surface of the filter could corrode, releasing excess amounts of petrol. With a spark or over heating, a fire could ensue, or even an explosion of the vehicle itself. Perhaps a small consolation to Ferrari owners, not the only ones to have cars recalled.
