Audi RS5 retractable wing

By Alison

The Audi RS5 is doing its last laps of the Nurburgring as the super-coupè prepares for its debut before the year’s end (most likely at the Frankfurt show), testing the V8 at 450 hp.

The lastest spy shots show additional details on the RS5, with a possible retractable rear spoiler that sticks out from the camouflage. Other elements are large wheels and a generous braking system.

The spoiler looks similar to that of the R8 supercar and could have a similar dash button to control whether the spoiler sits up or down. Whether it will be part of a series model, or an option, it looks like competition for the BMW M3 is heating up. A video after the jump.

New spy shots of the Audi RS5

By Alison

Audi RS5

After a quiet period, more spy shots today show us the much-awaited Audi RS5, appearing around the traps of the Nurburgring. Although the car has been talked about since the debut of the A5 in 2007, it is unknown which engine will appear under the Rennsport version of the lovely Audi coupé.

Talk has centred on the 4.2 litre V8 TFSI already installed on the RS4, which should develop a power increase up to 450 hp. Taking a look at the photo though, two large exhaust outlets emerge, which are the same as those of the RS6. The front single frame also presents dimensions similar to the RS6 sedan and Avant.

The RS5 could therefore be equipped with the twin turbo 5.0 litre V10 at 580 hp, the same used on the Rennsport A6. The guys from WorldCarFans also say the sound of the engine was impressive. Other features of this new Audi would be a quattro all-wheel drive and the R tronic, seven-speed transmission.

A fast six-speed transmission would also be available with 20-inch alloy wheels. The RS5 is expected to make its appearance in July, though we expect an official presentation at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Sales could start this year.

Audi RS5 : not just LED lights

By Alison

When your competitor is the BMW M3 and it’s so close to your factory that you can smell burning rubber, taking to battle requires something close to perfection. Especially when your adversary is truly a legend with intrinsic technology and a name that hangs in the history of motoring.

And so Audi, with the current interest surrounding its brand, is preparing itself with the lovely A5, adding the letters “RS” and reflecting the masterpieces that have recently emerged from the German company, such as the RS4, the R8 or the V10 RS6.

The challenge to the M3 is far more explicit now, with both V8 high revs, coupès and twin-clutch shift, but the true revolution is in the traction with BMW choosing rear wheel, and Audi splashing out into all-wheel drive.
