The Audi S7 will get a restyling for 2012 and here are spy shots of it going through its testing paces at the Nurburgring. The 2012 S7 will be unveiled at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September, a year after the A7 first debuted. Compared to the latter, the S7 should mostly get mechanical modifications, including a new 4.0-litre V8 engine and suspension system.
The S7 is said to have about 420 hp, and its new V8 will also go to equip the upcoming S6 which will bid farewell to the aspirated V10 and its 435 hp. Along with better torque, the new engine should have improved fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Audi S7 gets bigger front air intakes and at the rear a pair of good looking exhausts - symbol of the “S” badge.
The Audi RS7 hot version of the new A7 is expected to debut in 2012 and rumours say that it could have up to 600 hp. That would make it one of the most powerful models in the hotted up sedan segment, more so even than the BMW M5 which, with its F10 version, could reach 570 hp. It’s interesting to see Audi go all-out for the crown of the highest performance as a lot of other factors come into play these days, including lightweight chassis for fuel consumption and emissions performance.
A twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 would be charged with that power, and the RS7 could be fitted with other technology to handle the 600 hp, including Quattro all-wheel drive, a torque vectoring differential, adaptive suspension and large front air intakes. This is purely a rumour so we wouldn’t be surprised to see the RS7 come in at less than this figure, but at the same time the German brands seem to want to up the ante on each new performance version and Audi could be going for supremacy, no holds barred.

This is quite an out there video for the new Audi A7 Sportback. The mix of psychedelic and organic (bordering on phallic) imagery doesn’t really get explained until the closing slogan “Imagination meets engineering”. The design credentials of the A7 Sportback need no explaining - it’s definitely one of the more balanced and elegant takes on the coupe-sedan theme on the market. Audi is driving the creative process home by using the Rorschach animation to explain how the concept came about in the minds of the engineers involved, and the sountrack is a remix of “Dracula” by Basement Jaxx.
The new Audi A7 Sportback will also be available in an S-Line package available either as an interior and wheel kit or that plus an exterior kit. The interior and wheel package involves new 19 or 20-inch wheels with double five-spoke design, lowered suspension, a leather multifunction steering wheel, leather seats or a leather-alcantara combination and different trim finishes of brushed aluminium, black lacquer or brown wood. On the exterior we get new front bumpers and spoilers for a more aggressive look, carried through to the rear by new side sills to a new diffuser and chrome-tipped exhaust.
Until such time as get to see the Audi A7 Sportback live, we will have to content ourselves with this static video. At ten minutes long the only way you’re going to get know this vehicle better is by actually washing it. We’ll get to see the A7 Sportback live at the 2010 Paris Motor Show where it should be a star of the stand, contrasting alongside the Audi A1.
The starting price of the A7 Sportback puts it firmly in the luxury market at over 50,000 euros, but this will be a big model for Audi. It was easy to think that the coupĂ©-sedans appearing from major manufacturers was a bandwagon trend but with competition seriously heating up, we’re happy to accept this is now a legitimate niche. See the smooth design of the A7 Sportback in the video above - it’s all about executive suaveness as far as we can see.
Here are the first pics of the unveiled Audi A7 Sportback. The new model will be available in Europe from autumn this year with pricing starting from 51,600 euros. The A7 Sportback is equipped with three V6 engines: 2.8 FSI, 3.0 TFSI and the 3.0 TDI all with power ranging between 204 and 300 hp. The A7 Sportback will be a key model for Audi, and will compete with some other significant, luxury offerings on the market. The sportback sedans are certainly the flavour of car design right now, and consumers are spoiled for choice with offerings in the form of the Porsche Panamera, BMW 5 Series GT and even the Aston Martin Rapide.
Engine details so far include: the entry level petrol 2.8 FSI has 204 hp and 280 Nm of torque. It reaches 100 km/hr in 8.3 seconds and has a top speed of 235 km/hr. Fuel consumption is an average of 8 l/100km. The 3.0 TFSI has 300 hp and 440 Nm of torque and a much quicker sprint time to 100 of 5.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 250 km/hr and fuel consumption of 8.2 l/100 km. The diesel engine is available in two powersteps. The 204 hp version has 400 Nm, reaches 100 km/hr in 8.1 seconds, has a top speed of 234 km/hr and consumption of 5.3 l/100 km. The 245 hp gets a torque boost to a full 500 Nm. It can reach 100 km/hr in 6.5 seconds, has a top speed of 250 km/hr and fuel consumption of about 6 l/100 km.
All the engines of the new A7 Sportback have S-Tronic transmission and all-wheel-drive, while the entry-level diesel comes in Multitronic transmission and front-wheel-drive. The Sportback design clearly takes some inspiration from the new Audi A8 sedan, with the more pronounced sleek rear typical of this segment. It measures 4.97 metres long with a wheelbase of 2.91 metres; it is 1.91 metres wide and 1.42 metres tall. The aluminium and steel platform has been designed to be about 15 percent lighter than a more traditional option, keeping the 3.0 TDI 204 hp for example, at just under 1,700 kg.
The new Audi A7 will be revealed later today but here are the first pics of the new A7 Sportback. It should prove a tough competitor for the Mercedes CLS model and we can see both the exterior and interior in these shots. It looks very much like the production version of the Audi Sportback Concept and should share quite a few elements with the Audi A6. More details to come later in the day.
The new Audi A7 Sportback will be revealed on July 26th and will enter the competitive market of the new Mercedes CLS. The two cars should be followed by the other big player in the German trio with the BMW Gran CoupĂ© shaping up for the segment, too. The A7 Sportback wil be the production version of the Sportback Concept which was presented at the Detroit show, and should also reveal some of the new stuff we’ll be seeing on the Audi A6 to be revealed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
This new Audi A7 spy shots shows the latest phase of winter testing for the Audi coupe-sedan, with what appears to be a retractable rear wing. With the coupe style, we could be looking at something similar to the system used on the Audi TT and Audi R8, in addition to some of the mules of the RS5.
It looks like future, more exclusive, Audi models will be equipped with this feature to improve aerodynamics and sports feel. The new Audi A7 will debut sometime in the course of 2010, in what could prove to be an important year for Audi with presentations of the all new Audi A1 and Q5 hybrid.

The Audi Q5 hybrid has been confirmed and will be presented most likely at the 2010 Paris motor show, with production starting for a market appearance at the beginning of 2011. The Q5 will be the first Audi hybrid model to be produced, and will be one of the significant models presented in 2010, along with the new Audi A1 and Audi A7.
No technical details of the Q5 hybrid have been released, although it should include the 3.2-litre V6 petrol engine combined with lithium ion batteries. The new hybrid model will contribute to the 42 model line-up planned for 2015, increased from Audi’s current line up of 34 models. 7.3 billion euros are being invested in the development of new models to achieve this aim.
Here is a spy video of the new Audi A6 or Audi A7, coming all the way from Mexico. The video was taken in the town of Puebla, which is home to Volkswagen Group production facilities. While no Audis are known to be produced or tested there, it still points to a VAG vehicle, which could have the Volkswagen badge rather than the Audi badge. Reports say that it’s too big to be an Audi A8, and if it’s a Volkswagen, bets are on the new Phaeton at this stage.

Audi will present the Sportback Concept at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, which is likely to be an anticipation of the next A7.
From these few shots, it’s currently difficult to judge the look though one thing is certain: it’s a big car. With its sloping roof line, the new A7 has a fastback look with other Audi elements on display.
More shots will come through from the Detroit show, given us a better look at this new, exciting Audi and an updated design future for the company.
