Audi A6 Avant tuning by ABT Sportline

The Audi A6 Avant gets a sporty tuning from ABT Sportline. We’ve got to admit that we quite like the A6 wagon and this tuning effort only adds to its sporty feel, without going overboard. On the outside, the A6 Avant tuning features a new aerodynamic body kit with front and rear spoilers, side skirts and a new rear bumper. Wheels from 19 to 21 inches are available.

The Audi A6 Avant 3.0-litre TDI engine gets tuned to either 237 or 296 hp, which is up 35 and 54 hp respectively. The 3.0 TFSI gets a big 414 hp over the original 296 hp, which gives it an acceleration time to 100 km/hr of five seconds. Standing out on the model are the ABT signature four tailpipe exhaust outlets.

New Audi A6 Avant videos

By Alison

Here are more Audi A6 Avant videos in which we get driving footage, close-ups of the S-Line package and a good look at the interior. Audi doesn’t exactly make the most dynamic videos we’ve ever seen, so we’re putting this firmly in the executive family cruiser, but we know that the A6 Avant can be quite the sporty station wagon, too.

There’s no denying that in the “white ibis” exterior video after the jump, the A6 Avant has sexy lines and certainly all the luxury you could want. The estate is 4.93 metres long, 1.46 high and 1.87 wide with a wheelbase of 2.91 m. The rear boot space gets up to 565 litres.

From the second half of this year, six engine units will be available with two petrol models and four diesels. The entry level model is a 2.0 TDI with 177 hp, ranging to the 3.0-litre V6 TDI with 204 hp, 245 hp or the twinturbo 313 hp. The V6 direct injection petrol engines come in either the 2.4-litre aspirated unit with 204 hp, or the three-litre, 300-hp option.

Audi A6 Allroad renderings

Audi A6 Allroad renderings

After the debut of the Audi A6 Avant, here is a tantalising rendering of a possible future Audi A6 Allroad model. The offroad station wagon could debut in about 12 months time, and while we don’t think this is one of the best renderings from Theophilus Chin, it does give us an idea of the sporty elegance might be prepared to get itself dirty.

The Audi A6 Allroad will likely have a higher wheel base, with some of the classic plastic and chrome protection of a soft offroader. Recently Audi’s Allroad models have achieved a small slice of the market all their own, and have provided an option for those who didn’t want a standard wagon, but weren’t interested in a SUV either.

While the crossover craze is currently storming that kind of customer, there are those who still affectionately hold on to the classic station wagon. If the A6 Allroad has dedicated suspension, it’s the kind of model that offers a dynamic but balanced ride. Here’s to receiving some official details soon, we hope.

Audi A6 Avant video

By Alison

In this first Audi A6 Avant promo video we go from the sweet tones of classical music in what we think will be a video all about the elegance and luxury of the new Audi wagon, to the hardcore strumming of an electric guitar. We do get to see some dynamic driving but what the fencing’s got to with it is beyond us.

Maybe we’re being a bit reductive in our view of station wagons, but we’d love to see someone throw a whole lot of stuff in the boot, helping a friend out with a house move, say, or going on holiday with the kids, and we’d be sold. Because the A6 Avant is one of the better looking wagons on the market and we’d like a little extra convincing about its practicality. Just to mix things up a bit.

Audi A6 Avant pics and details

Audi A6 Avant

There’s a lot of talk about how Audi needs a new design direction (which we’ve indulged in, too), but there’s no denying that the new Audi A6 Avant is a looker for a station wagon. Sleek and sporty, with a luxury touch - just what we like in our estate models. The A6 wagon will go up against the BMW 5 Series Touring and the Mercedes E-Class Estate models.

The Audi A6 Avant has got a new front look, a sloping roof and a well-proportioned, elegant rear end. Despite being larger than the previous model, the new A6 Avant is lighter as Audi starts to put its new lightweight materials into production.

Thanks to an aluminium chassis (of about 20 percent of the whole), the new model actually weighs about 70 kg less than the previous one. It’s 4.93 metres long and has a longer wheelbase of 2.91 metres. The rear boot space is 565 litres, reaching 1,680 with the rear seats down. The big news is on the engine front, with the debut of the 3.0-litre V6 TDI twinturbo with 313 hp. First appearing on the A6 sedan, it will soon be rolled out to other Audi models.

Audi A6 Avant presentation on May 18

By Alison

Audi_A6_Avant_rendering

The new Audi A6 Avant will be presented on Wednesday, 18th May at the Humboldt Box in Berlin. The updated A6 Avant will be bigger than the current model but should be lighter by about 80 kg, thanks to new development on the chassis. The estate variant of the A6 sedan will go on show at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The rendering is from December last year, by Theophilus Chin.

Audi A6 Avant 'World Cup' Crash Test Video

By Toni M.

The FIFA World Cup officially opened last night, and the first matches are kicking off today and that means fan madness, with hyped up supporters heading to their cars with their matching jersey’s, flags, airhorns and showing their happiness by hanging out of car windows and out of sunroofs.

Apparently this age old way of celebrating has caught the attention of Allianz’s Center for Technology (AZT), who does accident and damage research, and decided to show us what happens to passengers if they should get caught up in a low speed accident with this Audi A6 Avant.

The result isn’t nice, but we doubt that this video will stop football mad fans from celebrating a win.
