Aston Martin Virage test drive video from Autocar

By Alison

The Aston Martin Virage is “undeniably a beautiful car”. In fact, Aston does beauty very well but in this Virage test drive video from Autocar, the English publication asks itself if Aston hasn’t built one car too many, showing that Aston’s creative inspiration for the modern era stops here.

With Aston Martin saying that no revolution is needed right now, the new virage sits between the Aston Martin DB9 and the DBS models. It has quite a bit more performance and drive feel than the DB9, almost to DBS levels, but with more comfort than the latter. The Virage is nothing short of “fantastic” - both refined and with plenty of performance produced by its tweaked V12 engine.

The Virage manages the fast but relaxed mix quite well, making for a nice road car that could make it to the track as well. Its carbon ceramic brakes as standard are particularly impressive, and it can do 0-100 km/hr in less than five seconds. Steve Sutcliffe says it’s a really great car but that Aston probably needs to start to think about its future, and mix things up a little. We’d be happy to see what that could entail.

Aston Martin DBS restyling spy shot

By Alison

Aston Martin DBS facelift spy shots

Here’s one of the first spy shots of the new Aston Martin DBS, nasty version of the DB9 coupé which is getting a facelift. It will get new headlight features at the front with LED lights debuting, and rear light changes, too. The overall elegant style will remain as is and it should still be equipped with the 5.9-litre V12 with 517 hp of the current model.

Aston Martin in India in 2010

By Alison

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N420

Aston Martin could launch in the Indian market by the end of this year, expanding the presence of luxury and exotic cars in India. Reports are that Aston Martin will launch its V8 Vantage, DBS and Rapide in Mumbai and Delhi, with the V12 Vantage and the new V8 Vantage N420 (in pics) on hold for the moment.

We can see the luxurious British style of the Aston Martin being a hit in India, with car fans (with fat wallets) only waiting to see whether Ferrari and Maserati will embark for the country, too. Pricing is expected to be about 1.25 crore rupees for the V8 Vantage and up to 2.95 crore rupees for the top-of-the-range DBS. From what we can figure out about crore rupees, that makes pricing equivalent to about 173,000 and 350,000 euros (further confirmation welcomed!).

Aston Martin Cygnet live at Geneva motor show: Aston stand pics

Aston Martin Cygnet live at Geneva: Aston stand

The Aston Martin Cygnet interior is what makes this a special compact, city car. The exterior has been modified just enough to make it more pleasing to the eye than the Toyota iQ, but it hardly screams the Aston brand. The interior, on the other hand, is truly amazing - just like a luxury, 12 cylinder coupé. We won’t hazard a guess as to how successful this will be for Aston, as it seems more like a fun experiment for Aston owners than anything else, but we still enjoyed seeing the Cygnet in the flesh.

The Aston Stand at the Geneva Motor Show also exhibits the DB9 Coupé, DBS Volante, the V12 Vantage and the Rapide sedan. It’s got to be one of the most elegant and sophisticated stands at the show and is well worth a look if you’re there.

Aston Martin Carbon Black for DBS and V12 Vantage

By Alison

Aston Martin DBS e V12 Vantage Carbon Black

The Aston Martin DBS and Aston Martin V12 Vantage will have a carbon black edition available from next month. In time for Christmas orders, the Aston Martin carbon fibre finish increases the appeal of the cars and reduces weight. Thanks to new sports seats, for example, the use of carbon and kevlar has saved up to 17 kg.

New Aston Martin rims with five spoke design are available, and obviously the DBS and V12 Vantage now come with Carbon Black exterior finish, used also on the interior features. The audio systems also get an overhaul, with the Vantage now equipped with the 700 Watt Premium Audio System, while the DBS has the Bang & Olufsen Beosound.

According to Aston Martin, a price increase of approximately five percent will be added, although full pricing and available will be available next month.

Aston Martin 2008 sales year second best ever

By Alison

Aston Martin DBS

Giving the crisis in the automobile sector (especially in the Japanese car market), Aston Martin has declared itself satisfied with its sales for 2008. In fact, though no absolute records were reached, 2008 was the second most successful sales year ever for Aston Martin.

Ulrich Bez has stated that he is particularly satisfied with the results of the DBS, which has seduced more than 1,000 customers since its debut, and that the company has great hopes for the V12 Vantage, to be produced in 500 units, which is half the original target, within in the year.

Even more important will be the arrival of the Rapide, whose production is set for the end of 2009. The Lagonda brand, after the first Lagonda concept from Geneva, is destined to remain a show-car at this stage, leaving the honour of becoming a production car to the second prototype to be presented in May.

Top Gear goes live, and takes to London streets in an army tank

By Alison

topgear_tank

If you had any doubts that the guys from Top Gear had a few loose marbles rolling around upstairs, you should now be totally convinced that they are a little crazy. Top Gear is going live and to promote the tour the BBC has put at their disposition an army tank, which will be cruising the streets of London escorted by a Ferrari F430 and an Aston Martin DBS.

Clarkson, Hammond and May will be touring the country from October 20 to November 2 with 20 live shoes including the classic challenges and comedy from the presenters. Tickets are divided into three tiers according to seats, with silver at 38 pounds, gold at 56 pounds, and platinum costing 105 pounds.

The possibility of another tour outside Britain is remote, and time taken to organise any possible European show would be likely a long way in the future.
