New BMW X3 teasers

The first two teaser pics of the new BMW X3 have emerged, showing that the new SUV is slowly revealing itself. The teaser shots show a detail of the X3 bonnet and some rear lights. The images don’t tell us much about the new X3, particularly whether it will be any larger than the current model, thus undergoing a repositioning in relation to the new BMW X1.

The new X3 should, however, be a longer model, with its length increased to 465 cm. The engine range should undergo some changes later in the life of the model, including a new ActiveHybrid version. The new X3 will appear at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

BMW 5 Series live pics from Geneva motor show

At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show BMW presented the new 5 Series, the 5 Series ActiveHybrid concept, and the ActiveE electric concept based on the 1 Series coupe. The BMW catch cry for this year is “Efficient Dynamics“, a project which was first launched at Geneva three years ago. For a better idea of why BMW is so focussed on what may seem a boring concept, check out the BMW physics lesson video after the jump, which takes a jab at Audi via an upstart youngster who knows how to draw the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car.

BMW is more than serious, though, about the technology from that concept car that it intends to adopt across the range. The entire range of BMW vehicles has a calculated average of fuel consumption for each vehicle of just 5.9 l/100 km. The ActiveE will soon start road tests, while the Megacity concept development will get underway.

In addition to the environmental focus, on display at the show is the X5 restyling, the 3 Series coupe and cabriolet restyling, the 2010 X6 range and the Z4 SDrive 35is. There was also the 135i with Valvetronic Twinpower Turbo N55 with dual-clutch technology, which is a technical novelty for the BMW M5 now available with Start-Stop, a Competition Package and rear LED lights. We’ll be bringing you more details and pics of the new BMW 5 Series, X5 and the other models from the show, but see these live pics from Geneva to see if BMW is staying exciting while focussing on its technology.

Francoforte 2009: la conferenza stampa BMW

The Vision EfficientDynamics has debuted at Frankfurt in these live pics, in a huge stand at the show with an elevated stage. BMW is casting itself as the world’s most environmentally responsible brand, continuing its research into hybrid and electric technology.

New products at the BMW Frankfurt stand include the 5-Series GT, X1, 320d Efficient Dynamics, BMW X6 ActiveHybrid and ActiveHybrid 7-Series. But the absolute queen of the stand is the Vision EfficientDynamics concept, which is truly an ambitious project both technically and stylistically.

It has a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine with 163 hp, and two electric motors, one for each wheel axis. A new electronics system that studies road conditions is included, along with GPS on-board sensors which can contribute to regulating air intake based on the road being travelled, for example.

BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics hybrid concept revealed

By Alison in: BMW Concept Cars Hybrid

BMW released its gallery of the Vision EfficientDynamics hybrid concept car, dubbed the world’s fastest hybrid. It apparently has the performance of an M3 and the fuel efficiency of a Mini, in a particularly impressive design.

Below is the full gallery and brief release detailing BMW’s new look at aerodynamics and style, lightweight body and of course, the BMW hybrid-drive technology featured in this concept. The engine is a diesel-hybrid 1.5-litre, three-cylinder unit with 163 hp and about 290 Nm of torque.

The Vision EfficientDynamics concept will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month, and will remain a kind of inspiration for the future direction of BMW. It is set to influence overall BMW design principles, as well as showcase some impressive hybrid technology, and even the use of a thermo-electric generator. Check out the details below.

Bmw ActiveHybrid7

This gallery shows the new BMW 7-Series hybrid, after yesterday having a closer look at the ActiveHybrid X6. Both models will be on display at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show, where BMW will also make announcements about its new environmental brand.

The ActiveHybrid 7-Series is equipped with a single lithium ion battery and has a ZF eight-speed transmission. The petrol engine is a v8 4.4-litre twin turbo with 465 hp, and consumption is said to have improved by about 15 percent on the 750i, as the car cannot run on just its electric motor. CO2 emissions are 219 g/km and 100 km/hr is reached in 4.9 seconds.

BMW X6 ActiveHybrid

Here’s a full gallery of the new BMW ActiveHybrid X6, said to be the world’s most powerful hybrid with up to 480 hp and 780 Nm of torque. It will be presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September together with the new ActiveHybrid 7-Series.

The hybrid X6 has a couple of aesthetic differences compared to the standard model, although the overall BMW SUV style is inherent to both. It will be interesting to see whether BMW’s attempt to make a green SUV is successful, keeping the city lifestyle vehicle alive for an environmentally conscious public.

BMW ActiveHybrid X6: world's most powerful hybrid coming to Frankfurt

By Alison in: BMW SUVs Hybrid

BMW ActiveHybrid X6

BMW will appear at the Frankfurt motor show with a new environmental brand and the world’s most powerful hybrid, according to the company. The cars to go hybrid at Frankfurt will be the X6 and the 7-Series, to be badged ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7-Series.

Both vehicles will be equipped with V8 petrol engines, while the X6 will have two electric motors and the 7-Series will have one. The X6 will have 478 hp and approximately 780 Nm of torque, meaning it reaches 100 km/hr in just 5.6 seconds.

The only drawback will be the heavier weight, with the ActiveHybrid X6 185 kg heavier than the standard X6, for a total of 2,450 kg. It will appear with a new metallic blue colour and a “powerdome” on the bonnet to differentiate it from the X6 non-hybrid.

Bmw confirms X6 and Series 7 Hybrid for 2009

By Alison in: BMW Future Cars Announcements Tech Concept Cars

BMW X6 Concept

At the Detroit show, BMW has confirmed 2009 production of the hybrid versions of the X6 and 7 series, previously seen as prototypes at Frankfurt in 2007 in the form of the X6 ActiveHybrid and in Paris in 2008 as the Series 7 ActiveHybrid.

The engine used on the 7 Series is the new V8, 4.4 litre twin turbo petrol at 407hp, matched with a 20hp electric engine and 210Nm of torque. This will contribute to a 20 percent reduction in consumption, together with energy saved while stopped and other aspects from the Efficient Dynamics system.

The X6 is, generically speaking, a v8 petrol unit with ActiveHybrid Dual Mode, which in concept stage currently includes two driving modes: one for city driving and the other for high speed touring. It seems realistic to expect a debut at Frankfurt later this year.
