Hofele Design has taken the Audi A5, added some R8 looks and come up with this result. The A5 takes on carbon fibre sideblades (which don’t appear on the R8 Spider, but which Hofele wanted to include on the A5 cabrio all the same), rear aerodynamic look from the supercar coupe, side skirts, a lowered body and twin chrome exhaust with four outlets. It might not be your cup of tea, but if you’re wanting to touch up your Audi, this kit is available on the Audi A5 and S5 coupé, and the Audi A5 cabrio and S5 cabrio.

Audi has gone the whole shebang to celebrate the launch of its A4 Allroad Quattro and TT-RS, organising a football tournament on July 29 and 30 between Manchester United, AC Milan, Boca Juniors and Bayern Monaco at the Allianz Arena.

The four teams are all official partners of the company and will undertake the tournament to celebrate 100 years. Present at the unveiling at Audi’s Geneva stand was Rino Gattuso, West Brown, Willy Sagnol and Carlos Bianchi, though perhaps all piling into the A5 cabriolet was somewhat exaggerated.

To focus on the cars: Tom Kristensen appeared on stage on board the TT-RS to show off its performance figures. The top class Audi from the 24-hr Le Mans has 340hp and takes only 4.6 seconds to reach 100 km/hr.

We know that a cabriolet is all about selling a lifestyle with a car, but we still enjoyed these new shots of the Audi A5 Cabrio, in a more atmospheric setting after the first official studio pics.

In these new shots we get a real sense of the elegant Audi open top and a glimpse at the interior. Audi is playing on warm sunshine settings with a luxurious touch.

After our previous post on the Audi S5 Cabriolet, we give you the second gallery of the A5 version. The new cabriolet has a soft roof, and will be available with six different engine options: the V6 turbodiesel at 2.7 and 3.0 litres (power at 190 and 240 hp respectively), the 1.8L TFSI at 160 hp, the two 2.0L TFSI (four cylinders, turbo compressed, direct injection petrol and power at 180 and 211 hp), and the 3.2L V6 FSI at 265hp.

That gives you plenty of engine options, and additional elements are the choice of a six-speed manual, or continual variation Multitronic, or the S tronic transmission with double clutch and seven speeds. As per Audi tradition, the more powerful models will be equipped with Quattro all wheel drive.

The Audi A5 Cabrio price will be 37,300 euros (1.8 TFSI) with delivery from the second quarter of 2009.

This Audi has gone under the knife (or the mouse) and the rendering has served its purpose: it’s just a shame that a play of light flattens out the form. The “bath tub” effect will not be a prerogative for the series, though. Inside Lane has published this computer rendition of the future Audi A5 cabriolet: the open top expected in 2009 and destined to pay testimony to the A4 in the sector of four-seater convertibles.

The final result won’t be too far from this, with style inherited from the coupé and a sloping wind shield towards the rear, where a fabric hood will be housed. Even the engine range should see some similarities from its sister car: the 1.8 TFSI will step up to the V6 FSI at 250 hp, while the magic letters S and RS will appear on eight-cylinder models. All diesel engines will be six cylinders.

A new convertible A5 will be ready for the road come 2009. CEO Frank Dreves, speaking in the pages of “A.m.u.s”, gave details that the facilities at Neckarsulm will produce the new Audi cabriolet. There are no technical indiscretions either, regarding a possible hard-top roof (as seen in the latest generation BMW Series 3 cabrio, principle competitor); therefore it seems that the A5 for the moment will remain faithful to the fabric roof, to the advantage of weight and charm. More precise details are available for sales prospects though, at about 28,000 units each year.

This also thanks to a range of both petrol and diesel engines, diversified such as to satisfy every need, including the more sporty S and RS versions. Dreves also focused on how the company of four rings in 2008 is counting on a 6-10% growth and expansion in markets outside the EU. What remains less clear however is whether the A5 Cabrio will replace the current soft-top model of the A4, or whether the proposal (as confermed by the A5 Sportback compared to the A4 Avant) is a step-up in price, sporty style and prestige.
