Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS video

By Alison

If your dream was to have your Porsche 911 Carrera GTS model fitted with all-wheel drive, Porsche has just made that come true with the latest 911 special edition - the Carrera 4 GTS. Both the coupé and cabriolet models now come with this option, equipped with the 3.8-litre engine and 408 hp.

In the video we get a short history lesson on the Porsche 901 presented at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, moving on to the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR with limited slip differential, and then to 1984 with a 911 Carrera 4×4 tearing up the Dakar rally. The Carrera history goes on through 1988, 1994 and 2010 with the Carrera GTS, and finally to the addition of four-wheel drive this year on the GTS model.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS

Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS

If we were actually in the market to buy a Porsche 911, the choices are starting to rack up such that we wouldn’t really know what to get (although my personal selection would probably be the Porsche 911 Sport Classic - I just loved that special edition). Anyway, with options to play with, Porsche has just produced this
Carrera 4 GTS, giving the rear-engined model all-wheel drive.

It’s just the latest in the Porsche 911 (997) line-up and takes the recent Carrera GTS with its 3.8-litre engine and gives it all-wheel drive. That’s some serious traction on the model with 408 hp and 420 Nm of torque, and we think it could probably hit the mark with some customers. The model expands the GTS range to two versions - the four-wheel drive option and the previous rear-wheel drive model.

The new model will be available in both coupé and cabriolet versions and despite having more power, apparently it can count on the same fuel consumption as the 911 Carrera 4S. With a manual transmission, the 911 Carrera 4 GTS reaches 100 km/hr in 4.6 seconds, but a PDK dual-clutch gearbox is also available.

Porsche 911 Speedster and Carrera GTS live at 2010 Paris Motor Show

Porsche 911 Speedster and Carrera GTS - live 2010 Paris show

The Porsche 911 Speedster and Porsche Carrera GTS might be the ’same old’ Porsche sports cars but they’re still so good to look at. The live pics from the 2010 Paris Motor Show reveal the two new models, with the Carrera GTS being an example of the ‘best of’ in the Porsche Exclusive accessories category. It has the 3.8-litre engine with 408 hp and is available in both coupé and cabriolet models. The Speedster on the other hand, can be considered an all-new model for Porsche.

The 911 Speedster is a modern interpretation of the original 964 model and just 356 units will be made. It’s characterised by a lowered windshield (by 60 mm) and an aerodynamic style with a bulky but classic rear end. The engine is matched with a dual-clutch PDK transmission and performance stats are a top speed of 305 km/hr and a 4.4 second sprint to 100 km/hr. The Speedster weighs 1,540 kg.

On display from Porsche at the Paris Show is also the 911 GT2 RS built in 500 models and equipped with a 3.6-litre twin turbo engine with 620 hp. It’s strictly a rear-wheels drive model and weighs 1,370 kg due to the weight reduction and use of carbon fibre typical of RS models. The event also provided a chance for the public handover of the CEO reigns from Michael Macht to Matthias Müller, photographed together with the Porshce 911 GT3 R Hybrid.

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS video

This video of the new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is way too brief for our liking (but still long enough to know it’s on our wish list). The Carrera GTS fills a space between more extreme and everyday models in the 911 line-up, and will be a rear-wheel-drive model in both coupé and cabriolet versions. It can be distinguished from its counterparts for the black trim and different wheels, and obviously the Carrera GTS logo.

New Porsche 911 Carrera GTS pics

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

The 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is just as lovely as its counterparts, sitting between the Carrera S and the GT3 in the line-up. It takes on the look of the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and has an upgraded 3.8-litre flat-six engine with 402 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The Carrera GTS will go on show at the 2010 Paris Motor Show as the final fling for the 911 models before they get replaced by a new range in autumn 2011.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS has been designed for the less hardcore, more practical daily Porsche driver in you and comes with either a six-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed PDK automatic transmission. Options include a Sport Chrono package to combine with the dual clutch technology which will reach a speed of 100 km/hr in just four seconds in Sport Plus mode.

You can tell the 911 Carrera GTS apart from its siblings with its wider rear (an extra 44 mm), sports exhaust, 19-inch RS Spyder wheels, SportsDesign front bumper with black trim and some interior finishes including a black Alcantara cabin and more SportsDesign features on the gear shift, steering wheel and handbrake. You can never have enough Porsche, we see - check out the lovely new Carrera in the pics.
