The Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 has been presented at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, along with the Peugeot 308 restyling for the hatchback. The 3008 Hybrid4 is the pride and joy of Peugeot at the moment, being a first for the French company and the first diesel-hybrid model on the market.
The model is equipped with Peugeot’s 2.0 HDI 163 hp engine, and a 37 hp electric motor which produces power at the rear axle. Total power is therefore 200 hp and torque measures 500 Nm. The 3008 Hybrid4 can be used in all-wheel drive or all-electric mode. Fuel consumption is about 3.8 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are down to 99 g/km, thanks also to the Start&Stop system and the automatic, six-speed transmission.
The 3008 Hybrid4 will go on sale as a limited edition in 2011 at a price of about 41,000 euros. We’re impressed by the technology and would like to see more of these kinds of cars on the market, especially at lower prices to encourage mass market appeal. But while it’s definitely an impressive proposition from Peugeot, it’s unlikely to contribute significantly to the re-branding going on at the French company right now.

This interesting commercial for the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is almost enough to convince us that it’s a great car. The world’s first diesel-hybrid in production, Peugeot has decided to focus on the four-wheel drive aspect rather than the low emissions and fuel consumption. Curious, no? And we say that it nearly pulls it off.
Perhaps Peugeot has hit on the fact that the environmental characteristics of hybrid cars don’t always go the distance in convincing people to buy them. So what Peugeot is doing in focusing on the other strong points of the 3008 Hybrid4 - the 4WD technology and associated driving feel and safety. Oh, and it’s not bad looking either.
That’s not to say that the car isn’t impressive on the environmental front. Peugeot claims that the 2.0-litre HDi engine with 163 hp, matched to an electric motor of 37 hp, achieves fuel consumption as low as 3.8 l/100 km on a combined circuit and emits 99 g/km of CO2. It’s just that the ad doesn’t tell us so and it probably doesn’t need to for the uninitiated on the emissions front.
The 2010 Paris Motor Show stand for Peugeot has a number of models but especially features the new Peugeot 508 with its world debut. It appears with the 3008 HYbrid4 and the HR1 concept which features a new 1.2 THP engine. Diminutive, yes, but the engine should make frequent appearances in many of the compact Peugeots which will appear on the market, as well as entry-level BMW models. It is a three-cylinder unit with 110 hp and 190 Nm of torque and on the HR1 combines with a 37-hp electric motor for a total of 147 hp. Fuel consumption is declared at 3.5-litres per 100 km.
The lovely Peugeot 508 sedan will be available with a large range of eight engines. Three petrol engines are: 1.6 VTi with 120 hp, 1.6 THP with 156 hp and the 1.6 THP with 156 hp. Diesels include: 1.6 e-HDi FAP with 112 hp, 1.6 HDi FAP with 112 hp, the 2.0 HDi FAP models with 140 and 163 hp, and the 2.2 HDi FAP with 204 hp. Peugeot has matched the engine choice with a solid offering on the transmission front with either BMP6 six-speed automatic, six-speed manual and another six-speed automatic gearbox option.

Here’s a look at the world’s first production hybrid-diesel car, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4. The hybrid set-up uses a 2.0-litre inline-four diesel engine with 163 hp to drive the front wheels, combined with an electric motor with another 37 hp at the rear wheels. The electric motor can function independently of the combustion drivetrain and can work on its own at low speeds or to provide all-wheel drive.
Overall the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 provides a total of 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque (of which the electric motor can produce a total of 200 Nm at its peak). It’s the first engine of its kind in the Peugeot line-up and is predicted to equip the Peugeot RCZ in the future as well. the 3008 Hybrid4 will go on sale in 2011 and we should be seeing this impressive little crossover at the 2010 Paris Motor Show - this time in production version.
