Porsche 911: new official video available

By Adrian

A new official video starring the new Porsche 911 has been released by the Stuttgart-based manufacturer. The footage is a tribute to the history and tradition of the carmaker as well as an homage to its most famous model, the 911, whose first incarnation appeared as far back as 1963.

The new 911, aka 991 series, has been developed on an entirely new platform, only the third one in the model’s 50 years (almost) of history. The car is 45 kg lighter than its predecessor, with a wheelbase that is 10 cm longer. Its engine range include a 345 hp 3.4-litres unit for the Carrera and 3.8-litre delivering 394 hp. for the the Carrera S, both of which can be mated to either a manual or an automatic PDK dual clutch 7-speed transmission. The new Porsche 911 range is also ‘greener’ than the previous one, boasting a 16% reduction in both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

New Porsche 911 animation video

By Alison

Porsche has really played on the history of its 911 with the launch of the 2012 Porsche 911 and in this cool animated video, we get to see via a kind of paint-drop motif how the style of the models has changed. The 991 is clearly rooted in Porsche 911 history though, and should only prove that the iconic model can make it in 2012 with high performance but greener qualities. The 911 debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show - see the live pics below.

2012 Porsche 911 live at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

By Alison

Porsche 991 - Salone di Francoforte Live 2011

More live pics from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show bring us the lovely new 2012 Porsche 911 in all its glory. Shown in a midnight blue (which just happens to be my colour of the moment right now), the Porsche 991 was given the full low-down but there’s not much we can add to the story.

The original Porsche 911 was first presented at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show and it kicked off the presentation this year, highlighting the evolution of the model over the years. You can see the first edition Porsche 911 at Frankfurt in the gallery below, and check out the only 991 Carrera S that was on display, too.

While the new 911 hasn’t changed much in style it was stormed by the press wanting shots and a chance to sit in it at the show. Alongside it you’ll also find the last Porsche 997 on display - the 911 GT3 RS4.0 - at the Porsche stand at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Check it out below.

Porsche 911 model history video

By Alison

With the new 2012 Porsche 911 debuting at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show this week, the company has decided to roll out the 911 model history in this short video, to see how the new Porsche 991 model fits in with the others. The original 911 was first made in 1963 and debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show that year. It has since been followed by other generations, including the Porsche 964, 993, 996 and currently outgoing 997.

For a little lesson in car history with this icon, check out the video above and get back to us when we’ve got live pics of the new Porsche 911 from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

2012 Porsche 911 gearbox video

By Alison

Ever wondered how the famous new Porsche 911 seven-speed gearbox works? In this video perhaps the most important aspect of the 2012 Porsche 911 changes gets explained, and it looks like we’ve got some intelligent technology on our hands. The first six gears of the 911 are in a quick shift racing format, while the seventh has been created for lower engine speeds at long distance, high speed travelling.

That’s going to help in keeping fuel consumption down on the new 911 and we guess will be something rolled out on other models in the future. The dual-clutch PDK transmission also has the seem setup with the sports ration and then the “long ratio” on the seventh gear. See how it works in the video.

SpeedArt Porsche 911 tuning

By Alison

SpeedArt_Porsche_911_tuning_SP91-R

The 2012 Porsche 911 has already got its first tuning concept from SpeedArt. The rendering shows the 991 tuning in SP91-R guise, based on the (very) new Carrera S. The model will be more than a rendering come the Essen Motorshow in November where the new 911 tuning will be revealed.

The SpeedArt Porsche 991 gets a new aerodynamic kit with front spoiler, side skirts and rear wing and extractor. It will get 21-inch aluminium wheels and a sports exhaust with valve management technology. Tweaks to the engine should see an increase from 400 to 435 hp and the suspension will be revised to match. On the inside there will be extra leather and alcantara options.

New official pics 2012 Porsche 911 mega gallery

Recently we described the 2012 Porsche 911 and its first video as nice but predictable. Well, after this new official mega gallery of the Porsche 911 we’ve decided that a predictable thing of beauty is still beautiful. Is that the Grand Canyon in the background? Sorry, we didn’t notice for looking at the new interior.

Doubts about whether this is truly a new generation 911 are not particularly relevant on seeing the 991 wallpaper in this light. It looks like Porsche has done a damn fine job with its new icon and sometimes the difference between significant makeover and new generation is not so great. Call it what you will, the new Porsche 911 is lovely. We’ll have more live pics of the new 911 from the Frankfurt Motor Show.

New Porsche 911, GT3 RS 4.0, Panamera Diesel and Cayman S Black Edition at Frankfurt

By Alison

New Porsche 911, Panamera Diesel, GT3 RS 4.0 and Cayman S Black Edition at Frankfurt Motor Show

Porsche is another of the German car brands to be busy at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new 2012 Porsche 911 will be the queen of the stand, and it will be joined by the Panamera Diesel, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 and the Cayman S Black Edition. We expect all eyes to be on the new 991 though, and ears will be open to hearing added news on future models.

The new Porsche 911 is longer than the previous 997 generation and gets only minor updates in terms of style, although overall it gives the impression of being a more athletic car. A new interior has been designed, and new technology developed including the new transmission and a series of more powerful, but more ecological engines.

Matched to start&stop technology and a chassis that is 45 kg lighter than the 997, the 991 ushers in a newer, greener era for Porsche. The new 3.4-litre six-cylinder boxer engine on the Carrera, gets average fuel consumption of 8.2 l/100 km (1.6l less than the previous generation) and gets Porsche under 200 g/km of CO2 emissions for the first time ever. The Carrera S also consumes 1.5 l/100 km less of fuel than the previous model.

New Porsche 911 promo video

By Alison

Nice but predictable footage shows us the new 2012 Porsche 911 in its official promo video before the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. In fact “nice but predictable” goes some way to describing the new Porsche, which keeps the solid stuff of previous generations while adding some new technology to the updated 991 generation.

The new Porsche gets a slight revised look and a redesigned interior, although it’s in the substance of things that we see the real changes. The new Porsche 911 is longer than the previous one for improved handling and the engine range will be matched to a newly developed seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.

More details on the new set of engines and future models - and live pics - to come from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

New Porsche 911 cabrio rendering

By Alison

Porsche 911 Cabrio rendering

Rather than a climax for Porsche at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, we might actually see a denoument on the 911 front as fans skip the Carrera and Carrera S presentation to start dreaming about the future models. The new 2012 Porsche 911 will obviously get all the different versions we’re used to seeing, including a Turbo, GT3, GT2, Carrera 4 etc., but here is Theophilus Chin with a rendering of the future Porsche 911 Cabrio.

We like it, but then we like the Porsche 911 in general anyway. This particular rendering shows how the 911 cabriolet will look on the longer 991 model, for a more sloping look compared to the previous 997 model. Porsche already has this one up its sleeve ready for a debut, most likely with a fabric roof and in the next few months. Stay tuned for live Porsche 911 pics from Frankfurt.

2012 Porsche 911 video

By Alison

You can forget your Cayennes and your Panameras, the Porsche signature is the 911 and this new video of the 2012 Porsche 911 is all about that. Hammering home the “Porsche identity” is a brief video before the new 911 991 gets its Frankfurt Motor Show debut. While it looks good on paper - 350 hp for the Carrera, 400 hp for the Carrera S and a few new technical tweaks - we can’t wait for the first test drives to emerge.

We guess this is it from Porsche on its new 911 before the Frankfurt show turns up, but we’ll be very keen to hear more on the turbo, cabriolet (new spy shots have hit the net), GT2 and GT3 versions at the event. We’ll be bringing you live pics of the Porsche 911 from Frankfurt next month.

2012 Porsche 911 unveiled

By Alison

2012 Porsche 911 official gallery

We already know a bit about the new 2012 Porsche 911 and have already seen the first leaked pics, and so the company has followed releasing the official 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera pics before the model is shown off to the public at the upcoming 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The exterior details are quite minor with Porsche still backing the same 911 design that has been winning customers for the last near 50 years. The new 991 version is longer and lower, and is fitted with new 20-inch wheels and a revised rearview mirror that sits back, on the top of the door. Otherwise, the 991 Carrera has the same retractable rear spoiler we’re used to seeing and is the same old 911.

That’s for the exterior though, because Porsche has been smart enough to revamp the 911 interior, using the Panamera as its starting point. A new set up for the dash and central console and tunnel part is being used and this 991 Carrera is looking very snazzy on the luxury front. We’re guessing the sportier versions will be the same pared back deal, but this interior change is refreshing for the 911.
