The mysterious supercar that Indian firm DC Design was going to unveil at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo has finally been revealed: it is called Avanti, and here are a few images of the model taken from the manufacturer official facebook page.
Billed as India’s first own supercar, this mid-mounted engine model is powered by a turbocharged V6 petrol unit sourced by Honda, with an output of more than 400 hp. The model weighs 1,545 kg and should enter production toward the end of 2013 at DC Design’s plant in Pune, India. The firm plans to produce 300 units in the first full year and then scale it up to 3,000 units subsequently. The price should be in the 56,000 $ area (about 43,000 €, 36,000 £), but we will be waiting for more info on the subject coming from the New Delhi event.
Both versions of Land Rover Defender Concept 100 - the already known DC100 and DC100 Sport - are currently on display at the New Delhi Auto Expo sporting with a new paintjob, consisting of Firenze Red paint for the body and a white roof.
The models were premiered at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and are expected to hit the market in their final form in 2015, probably with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines with hybrid and plug-in capabilities, start-stop technology, and mated to an 8-speed transmission. The current version of the Defender - as previously reported - should be able to extend its life until 2017.

South Korean manufacturer Hyundai has unveiled its new multi-purpose vehicle ‘Hexa Space‘ concept at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. The most distinctive feature of the vehicle is that it boasts seating for eight passengers, and all the seats are shaped hexagonally in order to optimize the space in the cabin. The Hexa Space concept measures 4,300 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width and 1,647 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, and is powered by Hyundai’s Kappa 1.2-litre turbo GDI engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The model adopts Hyundai’s characteristic “Fluidic Sculpture” design language and uses an innovative sliding rear doors system that makes it easier to entry, exit and load the vehicle. The seats offer multiple configurations for seating: center seats fold flat for greater comfort, the second row folds flat to create a limousine function and the back row folds flat for light-cargo use. In addition, seven seats fold flat for heavy hauling and all eight fold flat for camping. According to Hyundai, the Hexa Space is aimed at young urban families in the 30-40 age group that need their vehicles to serve many purposes.

In view of its official unveiling at the imminent 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo, Ford Motor Co releases a first bunch of pictures and a video of its brand new Ford EcoSport, a compact SUV based on Fiesta’s B-Max platform and built under the ‘One Ford’ policy as a global product. However, the model was designed and developed bearing the so-called emerging markets in mind, meaning that the model is unlikely to hit the US showrooms, while a possible arrival on European shores is still in the cards but not yet official.
As for now, Ford has not revealed much about engine range and powertrain of this new model, but rumor has it that it will be equipped with the new supercharged 1.0-liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine, that is supposed to eventually replace all 1.6-liter normally aspirated units. The new engine should deliver about 120 hp and be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Moreover, an ethanol version of the EcoSport could also be in the works.
The 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo will open in about three days, and local firm DC Design just announced that they will be at the event introducing something pretty interesting: the Concept version of a sportscar which will soon enter into production. The news is confirmed by the ongoing countdown and the teasing image that are now gracing their official homepage. The model will then go on to become to first sportscar ever produced in India.
However, a few rumors are already circulating in the automotive press backyard: the car should turn out to be a mid-mounted rear wheel drive model powered by a supercharged V6 engine of Honda’s heritage, delivering 400 hp. The model will weigh 1,545 kg and should enter production toward the end of 2013 at DC Design’s main plant in Pune, India. The company is aiming at a total output of 3,000 units per year, with a price tag in the 56,000 $ area (about 43,000 €, 36,000 £).
Renault is set to unveil its crossover SUV ‘Duster’ for the Indian market on Jan 6th, at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. The model is obviously based on the Dacia Duster, the successful SUV that is sold in Europe with the badge of the Romaninan automaker, which is controlled by Renault since 1999. The French manufacturer will produce the Duster locally, in its Chennai plant, in an effort to keep the costs down and take on the Indian market with an aggressive pricing policy. The model will be the fourth Renault car to be introduced in India after the Fluence, the Koleos and the Pulse, a new hatchback that will be unveiled at the same event in New Delhi. The new Duster will enter the Indian market in the second half of 2012.

Mercedes-Benz as made its plans for the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi official. Covering over 3,600 square meters, the stall of the German carmaker will be one of the biggest ones at the upcoming Indian event, and one of its undisputed star will be an all-new Concept car of the much-anticipated A-Class. The model on display in New Delhi should be quite similar to the model pictured above (picture taken from an official photo gallery released by Mercedes-Benz in April), and will be one of the first-examples of the new ‘fascinating’ design language adopted by Mercedes Benz. A first version of the concept was already spotted at the Shanghai Auto Show, while Mercedes-Benz has already released an official video-teaser of the model, also last April (that you can see after the jump, together with two short clips documenting how its design came about and its connectivity features).
Another highlight will be the launch of the SLS AMG Roadster, a drop-top version of the popular SLS AMG. The Mercedes-Benz stall in New Delhi will see as many as 10 cars on display, including the impressive SLS AMG GT3 supercar and the C-Class DTM car.

Ford will take the chance offered by the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi, India (January 7-11), to introduce a new concept model that will preview a new - but, as for yet, unnamed - global vehicle, that should become available in India as well as other global markets in the near future. With expected attendance of 1.4 million visitors, the Indian event is actually an ideal location to showcase the newest Ford product.
As for now, all we have is just one teaser (above) with a bit of the concept car’s front-end, that we would assume is a compact 5-door crossover model based on the same architecture of the Fiesta. The new vehicle will be the latest One Ford global product, aiming to expand Ford’s footprint in the world’s fastest-growing auto markets, which obviously include India. It will also be the second of eight products that Ford plans to bring to India by 2016.
Renault just presented the Pulse, their re-badeged rendition of the Nissan Micra that will be marketed in India only. The Pulse will be equipped with the well-known and reliable 1.5 dCi diesel engine, and will be assembled at the Renault plant in Chennai, India, which can produce up to 400.000 units per year. The whole project required a 990 million dollars investment.
The Pulse, alongside Fluence and Koleos models, will make up the foundation of Renault’s range for the Asian country, and will be followed by the upcoming Durbin and by a new saloon car in 2012. More information about the Pulse will be released during the 11th Auto Expo in New Delhi, taking place this coming January.
