While we’re expecting its release sometime this month, the Subaru Exiga has been snapped in the course of a series of tests under the Californian sun.
As you can see in the photo, this is not a particularly conventional car, at least as far as the bodywork is concerned. A long bonnet with large air vent right in the middle, low seating, reduced height and the style of the rear doors distinguish this car.
The sporty style continues to the rear with a small spoiler and double exhaust, while inside the space is dedicated to versatility and comfort. The interior has been particularly designed for passenger comfort including panoramic roof, television screens in the head rests and fold-away tables.
Opposed to what many of us thought, the Exiga will not replace the Legacy Station Wagon, but will compliment the two versions that already exist, without overlapping. The engines have been completely re-worked, with an aspirated 2.0 boxer (with 200hp according to AutoExpress) and a 2.5 turbo from the Impreza STI, capable of 300hp. The 3.0 six-cylinder however, has been put into retirement.
In addition, Subaru is working on a nasty turbo-compressor version, 3.7, which probably derives from the six cylinder boxer currently on the new Tribeca. Power, at around 450 hp, will put the next Legacy STI in direct competition with cars such as the C63 AMG or the BMW M3 sedan.
