Alfa Romeo is developing a roadster that could be named Duetto, as a result of an agreement between Fiat and Mazda. The car could be powered by a 1,750 cc TBi direct injected turbo four-cylinder engine with output power rated at 250 hp delivered to the rear wheels.
According to early rumours reported by Car and Driver, the next roadster will be mounting a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. The Alfa Romeo Duetto will likely be based on the same platform of the next generation Mazda MX-5.
Both Alfa and Mazda are looking to produce a very light vehicle, thanks to the extensive use of light-weight, high-strength materials, such as steel and aluminium, in order to produce a very strong and more rigid architecture, which could reduce the weight of the car to just over 1,000 kg. The Duetto is expected to make its debut in 2014, but new details could emerge much earlier, allowing us to gain more information about this interesting sports convertible.
