Beautiful, comfortable, luxurious, sporty and well made - with this Class C Mercedes certainly has a feather in its cap to make record numbers. In fact, after only a year from its commercial debut on March 31 2007, the new car has sold about 300,000 units between the sedan version and the station wagon.
“The sedan had a brilliant start and, from its presentation, the station wagon was also very successful,” says Klaus Maier, executive vice president of sales and marketing. The numbers have taken the “C” to undisputed leader in its segment.
The market with the highest gains is obviously Germany, absording 25 percent of sales. Following is the U.S, Great Britain, Italy and South Africa. Accessories and style have played an important role in this sales success, with one “C” out of two being sold with the “Avantgarde” label and its more sporty nose.
Maier says that this has been a move that has permitted Mercedes to keep purists of the brand happy, while also reaching out to a younger public with more sporty needs. At the end of the year the new six-cylinder petrol version with 350 CGI BlueEfficiency and direct injection will be available, capable of consuming ten percent less than the current V6 petrol. No news though, on the eventual arrival of the cabrio version.
