This choice would allow the Countryman to get that rugged off-road look, typical of a SUV, while keeping its crossover approach.
The internal name of the vehicle, according to Autocar, is Mini Spacebox. The intent of the brand is to create a convenient and practical family-car, which differs from the Mini Clubman mainly for the increased interior roominess and re-defining this last one in term of sportiness.
The cars will be based on the new front-wheel drive UKL platform that will be launched with the next generation Mini hatchbacks and the forthcoming BMW 1-Series. This platform will come in two wheelbase lengths, two track widths and with high and low seating positions: the new Countryman is expected to use this new platform, as well as the new BMW X1.
