To the benefit of those who fancy the Audi A1 Quattro but think it is just too extreme or too expensive, Audi is currently working on a new pocket rocket version of the A1 super mini.
Our photographers spotted this A1 prototype sporting the quad exhaust pipes system usually found on the S-Models, so there might be a model that would slot in just under the 256 hp strong A1 Quattro. On the other hand, since the A1 Quattro was limited to just 333 units, Audi might still want to launch a car with equal performance but with a milder and less extreme body kit that would fulfill the demands of its customers.
According to those who have heard the sound of the pictured mule, this prototype was clearly a petrol car and so we think it is fair to assume that under its bonnet there was some variant of the 2.0-litre TFSI unit (credited with an output in the 220-250 hp) powering all four wheels via Audi’s signature Quattro system. Is this car the reason why Audi was saving the S1 name and didn’t use it on the A1 Quattro? We just have to wait and see.
