McLaren confirms the rumors leaked in recent days and reveals the new MP4-12C, which has been subject to some technical upgrades that set its price to 212,200 €. The revamped model from the Woking-based manufacturer will maintain the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 of the outgoing generation, which is now credited with an output of 625 hp (+25 hp over the ‘old’ one) at 7,500 rpm and 600 Nm of peak torque available between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm.
With these new performance figures, the MP4-12C will burn the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.1 seconds, the 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.8 seconds (1 tenth less than the previous version), the 0-300 km/h (186 mph) in 26.5 seconds (1 second less than the previous version) and will cover the 1 km length starting from standstill in 10.6 seconds (10.7 sec), crossing the line at 219 km/h (218 km/h), while top speed goes up from 330 km/h to 333 km/h. The renewed M838T engine now needs 11.7 liters of petrol to travel 100 kilometers and emits 279 grams of CO2 per km. The upgrades of this unit were not mechanical as they mostly affected the electronics, which have been re-calibrated. The SSG 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox is now smoother and more responsive.
The new model will also come with a bunch of secondary updates: a button mounted on each door replaces the previous ‘one touch’ opening system , which obviously has not fully complied with the expectations. The windshield wipers, when in AUTO-lights mode, activate themselves as soon as the rain starts to fall, while the air conditioner uses a so-called AUTO LO mode that allow to reach the desired temperature in the cabin emitting the least possible noise. Then there’s also a new Volcano Yellow paintjob, new 5-spoke forged alloy wheels as well as new finishes and coating for the interior. Another interesting feature is the ‘Vehicle Lift’, which can increase the ride height of the front end by 40 mm and the rear by 25 mm when travelling at a speed inferior to the 60 km/h mark (37 mph). The new McLaren MP4-12C will be on sale starting October, although the owners of the previous model can also benefit from the changes for free.
