With the new arrival of a sports car developed from the Toyota/Subaru collaboration, Nissan appears more convinced about reviving the Silvia, so as not to leave the field open for competitors.
According to the latest information, the company is beating time on the alliance between Japan’s biggest car manufacturers: at Sol Levante testing has already commenced on the small Nissan sports, of which we still know very little.
The engine for example: the best informed amongst us are divided into two camps with the first foreseeing the adoption of a 2.0 aspirated and the second betting on a 1.6 or 1.8 turbo with direct injection and the Nissan VCR (Variable Compression Ratio) system, able to marry performance and consumption.
As we were saying the Silvia beats the current model by a breath. For this one a debut for the second half of 2010 has been talked about, while the Toyota/Subaru coupè has apparently already been moved to the successive year.
How can one explain the return of this small Japanese sports car, so in vogue in the 90’s and then fallen into general oblivion? As regards Nissan, it’s attempting to win over a re-born clientele of young fans of good driving, and it thinks it can manage thanks to this small (and relatively economic) rear drive.
The size would be about 435 cm in length, 175 in width with a wheel case of 265. In addition to the compact dimensions, another strong point would be reduced weight, needed to beat Toyota/Subaru who have good prospects in this area.
