The eagerly awaited 2013 Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series made its official debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show. Presented to the world in a pretty original color exclusive to this special version, the new Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series is powered by the same M159 V8 unit equipping the Mercedes SLS, which AMG engineers have refined to achieve the 8,000 rpm by replacing some of its internal parts.
Consequently, power has gone up to 631 hp, allowing an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph). Engine asode, however, the engineers in Affalterbach have also studied a new aerodynamic kit made of carbon that allows the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series to get the maximum possible downforce, ensuring tightness and handling usually reserved for racing cars.
AMG also proposes some other pretty peculiar aerodynamic bits as an optional extra, which would further increase the downforce of the car and improve the air-flows for the cooling of both engine and brakes. At the rear there is also a large carbon wing with aluminum supports, lifted directly from the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3.
