The great interest of the Chinese and North American motorists for the C-Segment saloons have pushed the Volkswagen management to grant the go-ahead to a second CC, more compact and streamlined, which will be placed beneath the new D-segment CC. According to Autocar, the new saloon boasts a sportier look and it is internally known as SC (Sport Coupe). The development has been approved by Volkswagen, after the failure of the NCC (New Coupe Concept) project, displayed at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, which should have become a two door version of the current Jetta. This type of vehicle – spacious, comfortable coupe, but far from sporty - does not capture the public interest anymore.
“Our research suggests there is increasingly a market for a sportier and more stylish version of the Jetta in the mould of the CC only smaller and more affordable. From the feedback we’ve received so far buyers want an individual bodystyle and the practicality of four doors” a company source revealed. The Volkswagen SC will use the MQB platform to build the new Jetta range. It will compete with the 4-door Audi A3 and Mercedes CLC.
