Good sales and prizes for the Audi Q7 must have whet the management’s appetite in Ingolstadt: besides the mid-size Audi Q5, now there’s talk of an Audi Q3, a small and sporty SUV based on the Audi A3 (in the picture, Auto Zeitung’s rendering).
This is plausibile, because it chimes in with VAG’s philosophy: what gets developed for the Golf SUV (2007) will soon get a new dress and 4 rings on the front. Then, a trinity will be completed with the Skoda Yeti (2007 too ?).
Update: an alert reader of Autoblog.it reminds the Steppenwolf, a precursor of a possible Q3.
Known details about AU 366 (the project’s codename) are scarce: it could be on the market in 2009, it will be sleek and sporty to differentiate it from its less noble siblings, and it might come only in a three door version. One thing is not clear from Auto Zeitung’s article: at first it talks of a Q3 based on the Golf SUV (V generation platform), then of the fact that it’ll be based on the VI generation A3 … I expect that Auto Bild or Auto Motor und Sport will soon have news, if the project exists.
