Green light for the Audi R8

Audi Le Mans Quattro
Seems that the Audi R8 got an official green light for production, according to Auto Motor und Sport. The two seater super-coupe derived from the concept Le Mans Quattro (in the picture) will be assembled by 250 workers of the Quattro Gmbh division in a new production line in Neckarsulm, on which Audi will invest 28 million €.

The market introduction of the Audi R8 (no more R9 ?) is expected in the second quarter of 2007. Auto Motor und Sport writes about a terrifying engine for it: the Lamborghini derived 5.0 V10 FSI of the new S8, would get a shiny new bi-turbo, taking power up to 610 hp and torque up to 750 Newtonmeters. Acceleration and speed should be likewise impressive: 3,7 seconds from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph), maximum theoretical speed is 345 km/h (211 mph). I hope that more down to earth engines will be present (the 450 hp of the S8 wouln’t be bad). Nothing is known about prices.

One question remains: where has all the talk about not encroaching on Lamborghini’s territory with the R8 gone ?!?
