Hyundai Motor Co. is going to wow the US audience watching the next XLVI Super Bowl with a series of memorable commercials, in a bid to emulate VW Passat’s success last year following the famous ad with the little kid dressed up as Darth Vader (if you missed that, check it out after the jump below). Hyunday main man in the US, Mr. John Krafcik, introducing Hyundai’s plans for NBC’s Feb. 5 live broadcast of the game, confirmed that the Korean manufacturer would like the next campaign to “turn the needle a little bit in the direction of more entertainment“, adding that they are looking for “a little bit more memorability.” Hyundai has purchased ad slots in the pre-game shows and during the contest itself.

In the wake of that Star Wars-inspired ad - that went on air for the first time during the last Super Bowl live broadcast, back in January - the interest toward the Passat rose up by an impressive 70% in comparison with the four weeks preceding the event. Similarly, Chrysler 200’s two minutes-long advert co-starring hip-hop superstar Eminem and focusing on Detroit’s toughness as a possible source of luxury (that’s after the jump, too) paid off big time as well with a recorded 87% increase of interest.

Moreover, automotive industry analysts say that the shockwaves of both these TV commercials had a long-lasting effect for Volkswagen and Chrysler as the two companies gained US market share this year: Chrysler recorded a 1.3% increase, best result in the industry, achieving an overall 10,7% share, while VW moved up from 3.1 to 3.5%. Surely all automakers have been paying attention.
