
The Chinese government has approved Volkswagen’s plan to build its 13th plant in China, this time in the north-west region of Xinjiang. The German manufacturer will invest 315 million $ on the facility, which should be ready in 2013 and capable of producing up to 50,000 vehicles per year.
Together with Chinese partners SAIC and FAW, Volkswagen already owns nine fully working factories in China, producing a total output of 1.9 million cars per year. Two more facilities are under construction, while just a few weeks back VW got the approval from the government to build an assembly plant in East China. In the first ten months of the year, The German group sold 1.9 million Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda vehicles in China, making up almost 18% of the passenger vehicle sales in the country
