Australian company Varley Electric Vehicles presents the evR-450, an hand-built electric supercar which will enter the market in 2012. Varley has a reputation for building sturdy and reliable industrial vehicles, and this represents their first attempt at the high-end sports cars market in their 125 years long history.
The evR-450 uses an aluminum monocoque chassis and is powered by twin carbon ironless core AC engines and 24 kWh lithium-ion batteries. These two Ultramotive electric motors provide the car with a combined output of 300kW of power and an almighty 1044Nm of torque. The evR-450 goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). Varley also offers a less powerful version of the model, with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.6 seconds and top speed of 160 km/h (100 mph).
The battery pack gives the car a 160 km range (100 miles) that can be extended to 300 km (186 miles) when optioned with the range-extension package, while full charge is reached in about 8 hrs, but the carmaker is working to find a faster system to carry out this operation.
