Luxgen released the first official images of the Luxgen5 Sedan, the latest creation of the Taiwan-based manufacturer. The car was developed jointly with American and European companies as a mid-size sedan for the global market, but at the moment is still unclear whether the car will eventually be marketed in Europe. Two supercharged 4-cylinder engines will be initially made available: a 1.8-litre delivering 150 hp and 230 Nm and mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and a 2.0-litre producing 170 hp and 256 Nm of peak torque coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The latter will provide the Luxgen5 with a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 8.48 seconds and top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).
Objectively, the styling of this model seems quite ordinary, but nonetheless it is sober and elegant enough and offers some interesting bit as well. The Luxgen5 is clearly inspired by the Neora Concept, retaining its drag coefficient of 0.28. The interior looks pretty ‘Japanese’ in a way, and uses the “Think+ Touch” infotainment system, developed in cooperation with HTC and centered on a 9″ LCD touch-screen LCD. This device is fully compatible with HTC smartphones and will allow drivers to use all of the web-services of their mobile, from sat-nav to Facebook.
Luxgen5’s standard equipment includes such features as the Active Eagle View (which uses 4 cameras to provide the driver with a 360° view around the car), Night Vision (which detects the presence of vehicles-people-animals on the road at night), Lane Departure Warning System (which alerts the driver unwittingly switches lane on a motorway or crosses the white center line) and the Side View Monitoring System (which warns the driver when there’s a vehicle in the notorious ‘blind spot’ of the wing mirror). The Head-Up Display is also there, perfectly integrated to the aviation-inspired instrumentation. No word on price for now, but you can see a video of the Luxgen5 crash test by clicking on the ‘Continue Reading’ link below.
