The pictured mule boldly testing on regular roads with no fear of photographers is the new Mercedes GL for the year 2013. The new generation of the three-row crossover model from the German manufacturer is still a work-in-progress, but these new spy shots are actually quite revealing and it seems like the new GL won’t look too different from its predecessor.

In comparison to the current version, the pictured prototype sports a front-end with a more impactful grille, LED day lights integrated in the front bumper and newly shaped air intakes, whereas the rear-end seems to feature re-designed tail lights and hatch.

As for the engine range, rumor has it that Mercedes-Benz will offer the same choices available for the M-Class, meaning the MOVE family of V6 engines with direct injection along with several twin-turbocharged V8 motors. The new GL-class should appear in showrooms at some point next year as a 2013 model
