The new Range Rover Sport for the year 2012 has been revised in many different areas in order to make it more powerful and less thirsty, but is not that different from the current version. Its revamped 3.0-litre V6 3 now delivers 255 hp at 4000 rpm and 600 Nm at 2000 rpm, with CO2 emission going down from 243 to 230 g/km. The entry level diesel unit has been touched up as well to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, even though the output will be the same: it will now consume 8.5 l/100km in its 211 hp configuration and 8.8 l/100km in the 255 hp version. The supercharged 5.0 V8 has been left untouched. Aesthetically, it is basically identical to the current model, with only different graphics on the hatch as well as gloss black finishing for grille and headlights to distinguish it from the current version.
Inside, the infotainment system has been updated with a Dual View touch screen - which allocates one screen each for driver and passenger - with the ‘Say What You See’ voice control system integrated. The new Range Rover Sport comes with a 380 Watt Hi-ICE Harman-Kardon audio system (the current one has 240 hp) and 11 speakers, although a 825 Watt Premium Harman Kardon Logic 7 system with 17 speakers is also available as an option. Besides, the Command Shift lever has been replaced with a more practical knob that will let drivers select the driving mode.
All versions will be equipped with the new ZF 8HP70 8-speed gearbox, that can switch from a gear to another in just 200 milliseconds, almost like a dual clutch transmission. This device optimizes the power delivery accordingly to the drive-style and chooses which gear to use when entering a corner after pulling the brakes. Furtherore, ZF’s technicians say that their gearbox can skip up to 6 gears whenever such need arises, but the standard paddle shifters of the Range Rover Sport will allow the driver to act on the gearbox anyway.
