French manufacturer Genty Automobile released more details about the Akylone, the hot new project that will challenge the likes of Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, Koenigsegg Agera R and Hennessey Venom GT for the crown of fastest car on planet earth. The new super technologic French hypercar will most probably be unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show (29 September - 14 October).
The news is about the engine, a 4.8-litre twin turbo 90° V8, with 4 valves per cylinder, which - and here is the surprise - is being built from scratch by the little French carmaker. The unit is being developed with the help of veteran engineer Reinhard Könneker, who has worked for Porsche in the past (on 908 and 917 Le Mans models as well as on Formula 1 turbocharged engines of the 80s) and spent a few years with BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
As previously reported, Akylone’s engine will be a direct injection unit developing 1,000 hp at 8,000 rpm and 1,200 Nm of peak torque, with a compression ratio of 9:1. All this power will be transferred to the rear axle through a 7-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters. Only 15 models will be produced, all of which will come out of Genty Automobile plant in Saint Pourcain sur Sioule, France, birthplace of the company founder Mr. Frederic Genty.
