Corvette Daytona Prototype

Chevrolet will take part at the next Grand-Am Road Racing Series with a car inspired by the Corvette ZR1 currently known as Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype. Four teams will be using this model in the championship, and the first race to see it in action should be the Rolex 24 (formerly ‘24 hours’) at the Daytona International Speedway (Hanuary 28th, 2012). Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype was designed by Corvette’s technicians and developed by Chevrolet alongside Pratt & Miller, while the chassis has been built in cooperation with chassis builders Riley, Coyote and Dallara. Chevy released a few images of the new sportscar, but no technical specs or performance figures are available at the moment.

Chevrolet says that the Corvette Daytona Prototype is inspired by IMSA GTP Corvette Prototype, made by Hendrick Motorsports in 1984. This model started life with a turbocharged V6 and underwent a number of upgrades that ultimately led to the Eagle 700 model, in 1989, powered by a 10.2 litre 32 valves V8 that participated at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1990.
