Ford will officially debut the 2013 Mustang lineup at the Los Angeles Auto Show, namely the new Mustang GT and Mustang Boss 302. First off, the new range shows a re-designed front end with a significantly more prominent grille, new splitter, new hood and new LED day lights, while the rear has been updated with a gloss black panel between the re-designed tail lamps. Mustang also offers a revamped 17″, 18″ and 19″ wheel lineup and mirrors with pony projection light, which casts the image of Mustang’s famous pony emblem on the ground when the unlock button is activated. New colors (Deep Impact Blue and Gotta Have It Green) join the existing sporty colors for 2013.
The new Mustang comes with a 5.0-liter unit delivering 420 hp (as opposed to the 402 hp of the current version) and the standard 6-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission, that allows the driver to choose between fully automatic operation and manual control by a simple selector button. Ford offers several high performance packages to get more out of the GT version, but a V6 Performance Package is now available on automatic Mustangs for the first time. The new Mustang will also use a new 4.2-inch LCD screen showing Track Apps that will allow drivers to monitor their own acceleration (in quarter-mile and 0-60 mph increments), G-force and braking on the track.
2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 builds on the heritage of the 1970 Boss 302 with new, reflective hockey stick graphics package available in vintage School Bus Yellow and black and complemented by hockey stick stripes and gray interior rear cross-brace. Its engine delivers 444 hp with 515 Nm (380 lb/ft) of peak torque while still offering a smooth idle and low-end torque for comfortable around-town driving. Other highlights of Mustang Boss 302 are Brembo four-piston calipers acting on 14-inch vented rotors on the front, Boss-specific high-performance pad compound on the rear, ABS and Ford SYNC®, the voice-activated in-car connectivity system that provides a number of hands-free features and services.
