Apparently, the government of the Mexican state called Aguascalientes revealed that Nissan is planning to invest $2 billion for a new facility in the country, which could lead to the creation of about 10,000 new jobs in the area in the medium term. Although no official confirmation on the matter has been released, a Nissan spokesman in Mexico said that the company will continue to “study opportunities to install additional capacity” in key markets.
The move can be explained with the fact that the yen has now become so strong that profits on exports for Nissan and the other Japanese automakers are beginning to suffer, therefore they are exploring new ways to transfer the production of cars and parts outside the homeland. Nissan already has a plant in the city of Cuernavaca, just outside Mexico City.
