Fiat Palio

A new version of the Fiat Palio will soon make its debut on the market. The Turin-based carmaker describes it as “bigger, better and prettier” than its predecessor, a definition that highlights the radical treatment that the model has undergone even though the current version has been a great success, especially in Brazil where it sold in excess of 2,500,000 units in 15 years.

The new Palio has been designed at the Centro Stile Fiat (Fiat’s style center) in Turin, and will measure 3.79 meters in length (+2.8 cm), 1.67 meters in width (+3.1 cm) and 1.49 meters in height (+6 cm), with a wheel base of 2.42 meters (+4.7 cm). The car will be 35% stiffer than the previous model with a 15% of weight reduction, and will be equipped with 4 airbags, ABS, EDB and a mixed braking system (discs on the front, drum brakes on the rear).

Initially the new Fiat Palio will enter the market in three versions (named Attraction, Essence and Sporting) and three engines with either a manual gearbox or the Dualogic transmission. The entry-level engine is the 1.0 Evo bi-fuel, with an output of 75 hp and 9.5 Nm when running on petrol and 77 hp and 9.9 Nm when running on ethanol. Then there is the Fire 1.4 Evo unit, which is a bi-fuel engine as well: its delivery is between 87 and 90 hp with peak torque between 12.4 and 12.5 Nm. At the top of the engine range there is the E.torQ 1.6 with 16 valves, producing 119 hp and 16.8 Nm of maximum torque.
