Toyota introduced at the SEMA its own Yaris B-Spec Club Racer. Unlike many cars on display at the Las Vegas event, this car is not a mere exercise in style but will actually take part in the 2012 SCCA Championship, in the B-Spec class, where it will face competition from Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta, Honda Jazz and Mazda 2. The driver chosen by the Japanese carmaker for this American racing series is England’s Action Sports star and BMX legend Jamie Bestwick.
Toyota Yaris B-Spec Club Racer uses 15″ Enkei alloys and a red livery inspired by Toyota GT-One TS020, the endurance car that raced at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1998. Under the bonnet there is a 1.5-litre VVT-i engine - available on the American market only - with revised electronics which has been obviously tuned up in order to compete in the American series. Inside we have the complete fire suppression system, a six-point racing harness and a WRC-style steering wheel supplied by OMP. The car also uses a Beta Motorsports exhaust system, eight-point SCCA roll cage by Autopower Industries, Cusco suspension, Palid braking system and K&N filters.
