Subaru will officially unveil the long-awaited BRZ sports car in its homeland, at the upcoming 2011 Tokyo Motor Show (December 3-11), but on the other hand they don’t want their American customer base to feel neglected, and for this reason they are going to present the BRZ STI Concept car at the Los Angeles Auto Show on the 16th of November, first press-day of the Californian event.
There aren’t many images of Subaru’s new sporty rear-wheel drive car around, therefore the fact that the BRZ STI Concept will be in LA is going to be the most revealing anticipation of the production model as well, 2 weeks ahead of its official unveiling in Tokyo. Moreover, it will also give us some clue about the sort of direction that engineers from Subaru’s STI performance division are planning to take with it.
We know only too well that the BRZ has been developed on the same platform as Toyota FT-86 - which will also be launched at the Tokyo event - sharing the same 2.0 horizontally opposed ‘boxer’ engine and direct injection technology with its twin brother, but we expect it to show slightly different aesthetics and, possibly, some extra power under the bonnet too. More information about the BRZ is expected to come up in LA.
