Cadillac used the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance weekend to unveil their latest machine, the Cadillac Elmiraj. This beautifully aggressive looking car could help Cadillac to reassert themselves in the luxury car market. This new machine reminds us of the Bentley Continental GT, but perhaps a future version of the British GT car.
The looks are courtesy of General Motors' studio in North Hollywood and there's something of the movie star appeal in the new machine. Power however comes from Detroit, so this is an elegant looking machine with American muscle. The 4.5-litre twin-turbo V-8 produces close to 500bhp which is channelled through to the rear wheels. The long bonnet and pillar less door frames are reminiscent of classic muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO, but the front grille is closer to those found seen on luxury European cars.
The two-door four-seat coupe is 205 inches long and sits on 22-inch alloys. It borrows a lot of its design language from the ATS and CTS saloons both of which have the same sharp lines and aggressive presence. Inside Brazilian Rosewood is contrasted with high-res display screens used for the Caddy's instrument panel and infotainment system, so the Elmiraj’s interior is futuristic and classical like the exterior.
At the moment this car remains a concept but we're hoping to see if grace European roads at some point in the not too distant future. In Pebble Beach, the firm's senior vice president Bob Ferguson said "The two-door Elmiraj coupe is very doable. Our dealers really want a vehicle like this." Let's hope he's right.
