Korean manufacturer Kia will introduce its first ever electric car by the end of 2011. According to AutomotiveNews, it will be a minicar based on Hyundai i10 architecture, and only 2000 units will be produced in 2012. Currently known as ‘TAM Project’, the new car will exploit all the experience accumulated with Hyundai’s BlueOn project, another i10-based electric car which is already well into its testing stage.
Exterior design will probably be inspired by the Naimo concept (pictured), the 3.89 meters long crossover-looking city car presented at the last Seoul Motor Show. Naimo’s electric engine was powered by two 27kW lithium-ion batteries, delivering an output of 109hp and 280Nm torque and providing the car with a range of about 200km on a full charge as well as 150km/h top speed. Both Kia and Hyundai will launch more electric models in 2014 and 2015 in an effort to expand their offer in the electric vehicles market.
