As anticipated, the AMG version of the Mercedes G will soon get an upgrade. The next G55 AMG will be powered by the new 5.5 liter twin-turbo engine that we have seen in the CLS 55 AMG, which will provide the car with 525 to 544 horsepower depending on what power stage AMG will eventually decide to give it. Even if AMG promises a lower fuel consumption than the current version, it will still be quite high.
Judging by the latest spy shots we have received, it seems that there will also be some optical changes, such as new rearview mirrors, new air intakes (on this prototype it looks like the whole front bumper is splitted into 3 coolers), LED daydriving lights and little more. The brakes also look updated on the pictured model. The final version of the G55 AMG is scheduled to make its public debut at the 2012 Detriot Auto Show in January.
