Peugeot has released the first official pictures of the 4008, the compact crossover derived from Mitsubishi ASX and closely ‘related’ to Citroen C4 Aircross. The car will be officially unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and will hit the market in spring 2012. Priority will be given to extra-European markets, where it is believed the 4008 will get about 70% of its overall sales. In comparison to the Mitsubishi model, the exterior design as been modified in order to host the classic reference marks of the French manufacturer. This is especially true for the front grille, which has already been seen previously on other models, and day-time LED lights.
The 4008 is 4,34 meters long (30cm shorter than the 4007) and 1,80 meters wide, and features a three-stage drive system including 2WD, 4WD, and LOCK mode, which locks all four wheels. Peugeot is not planning to sell any FWD version of this car in Europe as 80% of the whole production will be made of 4×4 models. Petrol engines availbele for the 4008 will be a 1.6 (116 Hp and 152 Nm torque) and a 2.0 (150Hp and 198 Nm) that will also offer a CVT transmission option, alternative to the classic manual 5-speed gearbox. On the diesel side, a 1,6 HDI (112 Hp and 280 Nm) and a Mitsubishi-derived 1,8 HDI (150Hp e 300 Nm) will be offered, both of which will come with 6 speed transmission. Chances are that only the diesel versions of the 4008 will be marketed in Europe.
