German manufacturer BMW has released a new video starring the recently unveiled 2014 BMW X5, the third generation of the popular crossover whose first and already successful incarnation appeared in 1999. The exterior design of new X5 remains loyal to what we have seen with the previous two versions - after all, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it - with the most significant upgrades affecting the front end in the form of a more prominent grille, a newly designed front bumper and optional LED adaptive headlights.
At lauch there will be three engine variants: the BMW X5 xDrive50i will be equipped with the new generation of the V8 petrol engine (450 hp), the BMW X5 xDrive30d with revised six-cylinder in-line diesel unit (258 hp) and, on the diesel side, the BMW X5 M50d M Performance Automobile with tri-turbo six-cylinder in-line diesel (381 hp). Later on, in December 2013, the BMW X5 xDrive40d, BMW X5 xDrive35i, BMW X5 xDrive25d and BMW X5 sDrive25d (with CO2 emissions of just 149 g/km) will also join the fold.
Fuel consumption and emissions have been obtained through weight minimisation, optimised air guidance, engine technology and the standard-fitted – and extremely efficient – eight-speed automatic gearbox with additional BMW EfficientDynamics technology, Auto Start Stop function, ECO PRO mode including coasting function and Proactive Driving Assistant. All models will already comply to the EURO-6 emission standards.
