An irony of downsizing is that while the new Mercedes M-Class will be bigger and have a more luxurious interior, the SUV actually uses a relatively small four-cylinder engine which offers better fuel consumption figures - something Mercedes is taking pains to emphasise on releasing its new ML.
The model will originally be launched with the 2.1 twinturbo ML 250 BlueTec, the three-litre V6 diesel ML 350 Bluetec and the 3.5-litre V6 petrol ML 350 BlueEfficiency engine options, with power ranging from 204 to 306 hp. At a later date, we’ll get the more powerful ML 500 version, an ML 63 AMG and the environmental option in the form of the ML 300 Hybrid. New M-Class pricing will start from about 60,000 euros.
While the exterior look of the Mercedes M-Class has changed little, the interior gets a fully S-Class inspired cabin. The model comes with 17 to 20-inch wheels (21 inches for the future AMG ML), and features such as night view assist, lane keeping and blind spot assist and Distronic Plus. The Mercedes M-Class will be officially presented at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with sales starting in June.
