The Audi Q6 will take on the BMW X6 most unsubtly just given the name. We’ve never particularly liked the X6 but its overwhelming success means we seem to be in the minority. And so why wouldn’t Audi produce something similar to compete with the SUV-coupe, in the form of the Audi Q6?
This Q6 rendering shows what we could expect from a similarly-designed Audi model. It would be built on the same platform as the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne (proving once again how handy it can be to be part of the VAG group). The Audi Q6 should prove to be slightly smaller than the enormous Q7 and will take on a few more coupe-like features including a sloping front windshield and rear end.
The Audi Q6 intends to plant itself in the luxury car sector, offering only four seats. It will have a series of V6 petrol and diesel engines, all of which should have all-wheel drive option. AutoExpress continues its report, saying that the Audi Q6 could debut as early as this month’s 2011 Shanghai Motor Show, with sales starting next year.
