We’ll see the new BMW M5 concept at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show, and it will be joined by a new 5 Series “New Energy Vehicle” for China. The news comes from BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer who hasn’t revealed much about the new 5 Series plug-in hybrid, saying only that it is “from China, for China” and that it will “benefit from the strength and excellent reputation of the BMW brand” as reported by MotorAuthority.

The hybrid 5 Series is likely based on the 5 Series LWB which was also specifically designed for the Chinese market, and while details are scarce, it represents BMW’s first production plug-in hybrid. In Europe currently, we have seen the 5 Series ActiveHybrid but no production has been confirmed.

According to Autoblog.com we can also expect the Mini Goodwood Concept at the Shanghai Motor Show. It will be a Mini with the kind of luxury finishes from the Rolls Royce tradition, as the name suggests. It could definitely be a model to lay the eyes on - a Mini that really cloaks itself in luxury will beat the Aston Martin Cygnet anyday, we should think.

Expectations are that this a Mini Rolls Royce inspired by the past bespoke creations of Mulliner Park Ward. There are no hints as to what we’ll see but we think some fancily stitched leather will probably only be the tip of the iceberg. More to come next month from the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show.
