There will be a new Skoda concept on display at the Geneva show next week, which should mark a turning point in the design language for the brand. No details have been released about the new model we’ll see, but what we do know is that the Skoda Geneva concept should reveal what we will see from the lower cost Volkswagen Group brand from 2012.
The new concept will also appear alongside a new Skoda logo which is being designed to give the brand a more distinctive badge after a couple of good years of record growth. A brand like Skoda, while not currently selling in large volumes, could play an important part in the plan for Volkswagen to reach the status of the world’s biggest car manufacturer. In fact, future plans are that Skoda should double its sales figures by 2018.
Last year, Skoda sold 762,600 models in what was an increase of 11.5 percent on 2009 results. Some say the concept could prove to be a preview of the Skoda Joyster - a citycar model based on the Volkswagen Up!. We would prefer to see something along the lines of a hatchback coupé for Skoda to cash in on its traditional image. At the moment, Skoda has a reputation for producing good value-for-money vehicles and it has a stable line-up on which to do that. In the pics is the Skoda Faboa Monte Carlo special edition which will also go on display at the show.
