General Motors’ European arm Opel/Vauxhall has finally introduced the world to its new all-season midsize four-seat soft-top convertible callded Cascada at the recent 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The key-feature here is obviously that soft top, which uses an electro-hydraulic mechanism activated via a switch located between the front seats: it opens the roof in 17 seconds at driving speeds of up to 50 km/h (30 mph). Three soft top colors will be available at launch, which can be coordinated with ten different body colors.
The engine line-up for the model is composed of three units: a 1.4-liter gasoline turbo unit in power steps of 120 and 140 hp (both delivering up to 220 Nm), a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel producing 165 hp and 380 Nm and, sitting at the top of the range, a brand new 1.6-liter SIDI Turbo ECOTEC gasoline engine, with an output of 170 hp and 280 Nm. All of them can be mated to both six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
As for the interior, we find soft Nappa leather, ergonomic front seats, a heated steering wheel, several useful storage spaces and an electric Easy Entry system makes access to the rear seat swift and comfortable. Other highlights include the Adaptive Forward Lighting system with up to 11 automatic functions, the second generation Opel Eye front camera with extended functionalities (enhanced Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Departure Warning, new Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Alert), a rear-view camera with Advanced Park Assist, an ultra-sonic based Side Blind Spot Alert and Hill Start Assist.
