After the new BMW 1 Series M was released, here we see pics of the slight restyling on the range. Both the 1 Series coupé and cabriolet get some updates before what is slated to be a significant overhaul of this range in 2013, especially on the hatchback model. The touch-ups are what you’d expect on a minimal facelift with a new front bumper, LED lights and a new set of wheels. The interior also includes new upholstery and trim options.
Engine options remain the same apart from the 135i’s twin-turbo three-litre unit which will be replaced by a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre N55 powerplant. It gets a six-speed manual gearbox as standard with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission available as an option. The front bumper introduces what BMW calls an ‘air curtain’, designed to improve aerodynamics and therefore also fuel emissions.
The two facelifted 1 Series models will go on show at the 2011 Detroit auto show, but the new 1M will probably steal the show and be the model we’re all looking at before the new range turns up. The biggest news on the future generation 1 Series will be a possible front-wheel drive platform and a six-strong model range.
