Alfa MiTo Multiair

That’s the short of it. The long of it is that Fiat Group is suing an Italian television program over what it claims is defamation of its brand image, products and the company and its workers. Fiat claims that the television program Annozero attempted a pseudo-comparative test of the Alfa Mito in which the technical specifications of speed alone were enough to assert the overall inferiority of the MiTo.

In an official note, the company says:

The instrumental way in which Annozero illustrated the performance of three cars, among which an Alfa Romeo MiTo, involved in a test apparently carried out in autumn, concluded, only on the basis of the information relating to the speed of the vehicle, that the results of this “test” demonstrated an overall technical inferiority of the Alfa Romeo MiTo.

The subject matter is a television broadcast artificially linked to a comparative test conducted in spring, and not with the same vehicles, by the Quattroruote magazine and then published in the June issue. Incredibly, the program did not reveal the overall evaluation of Quattroruote, resulting from the comparison of all the technical performance information, safety and comfort, that attributed to the Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio version a superior evaluation to that of the Citroen DS3 THP and the Mini Cooper S.

Fiat claims that if it wins its case against the defamation, it will donate any money to charity. It seems almost absurb to be writing this, but it’s certainly proof that the Alfa MiTo is a key model for Alfa Romeo, especially on the local market and that its make or break sales could affect the rest of the Alfa Romeo brand and its recovery.
