In interviews with Autocar, Lamborghini has revealed it will no longer go ahead with an SUV project (cue cheers from the Lambo purists of the world), but that a four-door Lamborghini much like the Estoque concept is still an option. CEO Stephan Winkelmann has said that there will be a third Lamborghini model and that he would prefer a four-door Estoque-like model above a SUV which would have succeeded the LM002 model.

Like many car models across different brands that lie outside of the traditional roots of a marque, the Lamborghini four-door model would be a kind of entry-level vehicle that would introduce new customers to the brand. Lamborghini has been enjoying good sales in China, and luxury limousine models are very popular in that market.

Winkelmann insists though, that any Lamborghini car would still be loyal to the brand’s core values, although a new model would likely be developed on an existing Volkswagen platform, due to production and investment costs. While he states that a Lamborghini model would always have that characteristic Lambo style, he does say:

We couldn’t approach a thought like this if we were outside the VW Group. It’d be very difficult to do something. The investments are so high that if you don’t have synergies, it’s financially impossible.
